This is my experience today (5/20/2017) at Dan Gould Jewelers. I have never left a merchant review before, although I did post this on yelp just minutes ago. I stopped in today to ask if they had the ability to complete a watch repair. The repair consisted of removing a leather strap that was essentially stuck (Panerai style with hollow tube for drilled lugs that I installed on a Swiss Automatic Chronograph (Hamilton X-Wind) without drilled lugs not knowing it would be impossible to remove). Both a male and female employee reviewed and discussed the issue and informed me that the common method to remove a stuck spring pin is to simply pull it out by gripping with a pliers or similar tool. I wasn't concerned with damaging the leather strap in the removal process but I expressed concern that the watch lugs might be damaged by pulling the pin. The employees clearly stated that it was at my risk but that they have never see a watch lug damaged by pulling a spring pin out. I decided to go forward with the spring pin removal as suggested. The female employee took the watch and in my plain sight took a pliers to the leather strap around the pin. Rather than simply pull the pin out she rotated the pliers as if to get leverage again the watch body!!! She then asked me if I could try because her hands weren't strong enough. I took the watch and immediately could see that she had damaged the watch case with the pliers. I finished removing the spring pin without further damage. Next I removed the 2nd spring pin by simply pulling the pin away from the watch (the way they explained the process it to me) and not trying to use the watch itself as a leverage point. I removed the 2nd spring pin with zero damage to the watch. I am literally sick to my stomach that someone working in the jewelry business would be so inept and careless with a pair of pliers when I was so easily able to perform the same task without any damage to the watch. I don't care if it's a Timex or a Rolex.... seriously... I'm looking at gouges in the case and bezel of the watch (that was approximately 18 months old and still in mint 98% condition) and cannot believe that this just happened. I don't even think the employee knows what she did and I decided to leave without causing a scene. This jeweler might be fine for purchasing from, but I cannot recommend letting them touch anything you value after this experience. I acknowledge that I handed the watch to her but I never would have thought that a jeweler would use a tool that way. The gouges that she left in the watch are not repairable. I will never set foot in Dan Gould's Jewelers again and want to prevent anyone else from having a...
Read moreI would never ever suggest this place to anyone!! I called the store in February asking for details on making a custom ring from rings of my mother who passed & was told I could re-use the gold & the stones & just stop in, they'd be happy to help. I came into the store a couple of weeks ago, I was told I needed to speak with the jeweler to do the design & he was currently waiting on someone. I waited for him to finish up & waited for him to help the next party ahead of me. After waiting a full 30 min to talk with him one the assistants told him I was next. The man still took it upon himself to start helping a couple who literally just walked in. And when I commented on the situation he told me he was multi tasking & overheard that I'm wanting a custom design. In the meantime, I asked for a ring to be resized. I was given a price & that it'd be 1-2 weeks & that the prongs may need to be redone but they'd call me if needed. The jeweler finally came over & assisted me after waiting another 20 min for him to help the other couple. I was clear in what I wanted, I wanted to reuse the stones & gold. He told me they won't reuse the gold & why. And also tried to tell me the birthstones were in poor shape & that I need to get new ones (which defeats the sentimental value that he knew I was trying to keep). We spent about 20min going over things & he said he'd call with a quote. I got a call about a week later quoting me a total of $6k. And I'm not even sure for what! Because all it was doing was making 3 bands. Today I stopped in since it had been 2 weeks & the ring I wanted resized should have been done. The assistant couldn't find it, she stepped out & went upstairs & came back with it. Tells me it hasn't been done yet, he hasn't gotten to it cuz he's been so busy. Then tried telling me the prongs for sure need to be done so that's an additional fee on top of resizing it. How would that be known if it hasn't been looked at yet?? I ended up taking the ring back, without it even being done. This place has HORRIBLE customer service, the jeweler there is EXTREMELY rude. And they try pushing for things that aren't needed. I have never had such a poor experience dealing with a jeweler before. If you want a good place to go, go to Monticello & check out Classique Jewelers. The owner is amazing, very...
Read moreI cannot recommend Dan Gould Jewelers enough! I originally had a custom 3-carat marquise diamond bezel ring made elsewhere, but I was so disappointed with how the diamond lost all its sparkle. I brought it to Dan, and from the very first conversation, I knew I was in the right place.
Dan took the time to really understand what I wanted: a design where the diamond was truly the star of the show. I love yellow gold and wanted a chunky, solid setting that would hold up to my active lifestyle. After talking through options, we landed on a stunning 4mm yellow gold cigar band paired with a platinum Tiffany mount. Dan was thoughtful in pointing out details I hadnât consideredâlike how a plain gold band could show scratches over time.
Since I love a stacked look, he worked with me to find a beautiful white gold diamond band within my price range. It was gorgeous, unique, and even better, his white gold is alloyed with palladium (a higher-quality choice than the nickel alloy used by many other jewelers).
To complete the set, Dan custom-built a wedding band using my round diamonds in a twisted design reminiscent of a ring my husband gave me years ago. The sentimental detail made it truly one of a kind.
The end result? Absolutely spectacular. Everything was completed quickly, the craftsmanship was flawless, and the quality far surpassed other jewelers in the area. Danâs knowledge, care, and artistry made the entire experience amazing.
If youâre looking for a jeweler who listens, collaborates, and delivers exceptional work, Dan Gould Jewelers is the...
