I had never thought a simple loaf of bread could embody so many facets of frustration and disappointment until I purchased one from the Southwest Farmers Market. The excitement of trying a fresh, handmade loaf turned to utter disgust as there was an uninvited guest-a fly-nestled inside the bread. How does something so blatant get past quality control? The fact that someone would just overlook such an overt hygiene issue is disgusting. It is an abomination just to think about the consumption of such a highly adulterated product. The incident made me lose my appetite and also caused the shattering of any confidence I had in the vendors at the Southwest Farmers Market. The kind of negligence involved in handling food products is completely unacceptable and speaks volumes of the low standards maintained by the market. My personal experience with the bread I bought from the Southwest Farmers Market had me not just furious but really saddened. Wherever freshness and high quality are expected, having a fly inside a loaf of bread is very disappointing. That is supposed to suggest where the very bad oversight in food preparation and handling was occurring. Lack of attention to detail and hygiene will not only violate the integrity of the product as such but also bring about grave health risks in store for the consumers. This goes without saying that vendors must take immediate remedial action by putting stringently offensive quality control measures into effect, with the result that such incidents do not recur. In the end, it was this contact with fly-infested bread from the Southwest Farmers Market that was my real nightmare. It starkly reminded me that in the food industry, strict quality checks and hygiene are of paramount importance. All in all, this has left me with a mix of anger and sadness, knowing full well such lapses in quality control demean the otherwise promising reputation of the market.

I don’t understand how Southwest package beans full of kerosene or sniper cos I don’t know which one was used but the smell was so porous that someone far from where I opened it noticed now terrible it was. I buy beans from the store bi weekly and I haven’t noticed something like this. I came here because Southwest is terrible with customer services, the last time I bought a almost expired blueband from them and want to return without opening was war from their attendant which I was so surprised about, so imagine a bag of beans I’ve already opened. I hope you guys do better in future cos this is really heartbreaking.

I bought 5 lbs of goat meat from the Irving branch and I still regret it. The meat was slimy and smelled stale. I washed several times with salt and had to separate the best from the rest . I called to let the know and the lady that answered the phone yelled at me that I was lying that no one has complained. She wouldn’t let me talk. And ended the call before I could tell her I was bringing it back. I thought about the drive back and knowing that it would not yield any results and she could get violent,I counted my loss and know that I was not returning there. I have said this before but this time am done.

If you're craving authentic African cuisine with a bold, homemade flavor, Southwest Farmers Market is an absolute gem. Tucked away like a hidden culinary treasure, this vibrant restaurant and market hybrid is more than just a place to eat—it's a cultural experience.

But let’s get to the star of the show: the puff puffs.

Golden, fluffy, and perfectly crisp on the outside, these bite-sized dough balls are nothing short of legendary. Lightly sweet with a touch of spice, they strike that perfect balance between chewy and airy—a feat not many can achieve. Each puff puff is fried fresh and served warm, radiating the irresistible aroma of street food you’d find in Lagos or Accra. One bite, and you’ll understand why regulars call them the best in the world—it’s not an exaggeration.

The rest of the menu is just as rich, with jollof rice, egusi soup, suya, and fufu options that speak to the depth of West African culinary tradition. The staff are warm, welcoming, and eager to share the stories behind each dish. The adjoining market is a bonus, offering imported African spices, snacks, and ingredients so you can bring the flavors home.

If you're in search of soul-satisfying food and the world’s most addictive puff puffs, Southwest Farmers Market is your destination. Come hungry. You’ll...
