My husband and I (his cousin and her husband were with us too) being new to Arvada after living in Denver for 5 years were very excited to attend the Arts & Ales event yesterday. We decided to splurge and get the VIP tickets for $50 ea. This was advertised as food offered all day by Stuebens, wine & beer and an inside area to sit. Well, what a rip off. Yes there was wine and beer and food. However when we arrived at approximately 1pm there was only a tray of cut up pickles, 2 cans of beer and a bottle of red wine 1/2 empty. I asked 3 different workers and they said they would let someone know. Ok so we decided to have a drink and wait. 1/2 hour later 2 trays showed up (only 2 - for about 30 people who had now come into the room. The trays were filled with deep fried macaroni & cheese in squares. That was it. We thought maybe they were bring different food at different times of the day. At this point we were starting to get hungry so decided to walk around and come back. We sat outside and listened to the band for about an hour. We decided to go back to the "VIP" area and see if they brought more food. Well guess what - they did. More trays of cut up pickles and the fried squares of mac & cheese. Oh and one more thing was added - cole slaw. We were all very disappointed and if this is how Stuebens wants to promote there food it was a very poor choice. I have eaten in the one located in Denver but will not go to the one in Arvada only on principle because of this poor showing of "food supplied all day" advertisement. What a total rip off. My husband announce he will never go to the Arts & Ales event again because of this. It certainly left a "bad taste" in our mouths. I am not saying people should boycott. This is only to let you know - not to be deceived by the VIP enticement for next time. I would have given this food "0" stars if I could. Poor choice on serving fried squares of mac & cheese, cole slaw & pickles. That type of food you would see at a cheap kids party and not a "VIP" event. Oh yeah almost forgot later in the day they brought spicy fried chicken balls in a waffle cone. Totally dried...
Read moreNice theater and everything is in good shape. It is the staff, directors and writers I have some serious concerns with. I have gone here over the years and it is not a welcoming environment for diversity at all. I do not think that the center is aware of the unwelcoming atmosphere it has created for people of color. From the way the staff treats people to specifically the stereotypes and script that is displayed on stage. I was there recently with my family for the Sister Act production. Not only was the overall theme of the movie evaded, around the unity of a group of women regardless of race religion, and upbringing; there was more precedent put on the differences and the shaming of black women as they reinforced negative stereotypes. The lead actress was very talented, and I am not demoting her work or the work of the cast. It is the directors, writers and center that should be looking at their very dated, and I must say racist script, that shocked and honestly disgusted my family. Throwing around degrading terms like the N word in a musical and making a joke out of it is the epitome of reinforcing oppressive behavior towards people of color. Regardless of the time period the play took place ( which was the recent '70's), there is no appropriate time to make a degrading and oppressive term seem light hearted or ok to use in 2016. Very disappointed in this place and the audience who laughed loudest at this disturbing joke. I hope the center and all who participated will step up and realize their mistake and do their part in helping make this a welcoming place for all by doing their research and being more societally appropriate next time. Until then, my family, friends and I will never...
Read moreMy family and I went here to see Charlotte's Web. In the past we have also gone to see The Cat in the Hat/Seussical and Junie B Jones. I can't say enough how wonderful each show was, but I can say that these shows, though based more for children, were so good that I fell in love with theatre and musicals which was an absolute surprise to me. Let's just say I now buy tickets for me and take the kids vs buying the tickets for them and chaperoning them. I don't think they see the difference, they enjoy it as much as me and each time they ask to go again. The facility is a good size, but not too large. There are many artistic pieces to view in addition to the shows, from the sculpture garden outside, to the playground size dragon/playground, to the sculptures and paintings inside, it brings a lot to be in awe of and is a place families will remember. I do intend on going to adult theme shows someday, but so far, I absolutely love...
