Penzeys Spices — Attraction in Arvada

I love Panzeys Spices. The spices add just the right flavor to everything. This has allowed making dietary restrictions not seem like I'm missing out. I look forward to visiting every time I go.

However, I am very tired of the horrible service I get in Old Town. The staff is only interested in getting me to pay at the checkout counter. Other than that, they don't offer me help, service, or try to assist me with ideas.

This last trip (July 2013) was the kicker. I came at 5:40 with a list of spices knowing they were closing at six. I rushed around to get it all and was rudely addressed by the two staff members there. They sat at the register with pursed lips staring at me the whole time. Fifteen minutes is enough time to shop for me as I was a regular. At one point, the lady grabbed my shopping basket while it was on my arm and tried to pull me to the register! I told her to stop and to give me a moment. She said, "Well let me just take it so I can ring it up as you shop." It took her three minutes to let go of the basket and let me continue. It actually left marks on my arm that took hours to fade away.

I don't know how I kept my calm, but this left a mark that will never go away. I love Penzeys, but after this consistent poor treatment I will be trying Savory...

The staff at this store are extremely helpful and kind! They are bright shining examples of wonderful Americans :-) the product, the spices at Penzeys are far superior to any other brand I've ever used. I've never had anything that was unpleasant for the spices or if not the finest quality you can find from the store. It is truly unfortunate that the owner is almost anti-American and his angry mean political views. They have wonderful coupons and that's the best time to take advantage of their prices and their product. it is just sad that you have to receive emails from the angry one-sided owner of the company in order to receive any coupons. Overall, this is a beautiful store so delightful to go in and browse, wonderfully helpful staff, plenty of fantastic suggestions, and generous hearts with the overall ultimate goal in mind... Honestly pretty disappointing to have political beliefs snuck into your order, even in person. That’s just petty and ignorant tbh. The two ladies there seemed nice enough and the spices smelled great. We were very happy to find a “local” spice shop that we could go to when up in Denver visiting some family. We got our three spices we wanted and checked out, only to get home and find that they snuck this “RESIST!” package of seasoning in the bag. Very unfortunate to see an otherwise seemingly nice spice store shoot themselves in the foot by being coercively political with their customers for no reason. You’re a spice company…Just make and sell good spices. But this company decided to Bud Light themselves. Never going back...
