Iām leaving this review to communicate my complaint about Ashburn Ice House Hockey Director Troy MacCormick. I had two sons that played in the in-house league and I had contacted him regarding my dis-satisfaction with the program. He initially did not respond to me or my concerns.
After numerous attempts to get in contact with him, Mr. MacCormick finally returned my call and I spoke on the phone about my concerns. Mr. MacCormick was extremely rude and arrogant to me. I was consummately polite throughout the call, but Mr. MacCormick nevertheless belittled my concerns and made insulting statements directed to me and my son.
One of the things that most upset me about that call was when he flippantly asked me āwhere would your son even go to play if not here?ā. I politely replied that Ion had a house league that I could send him there. Mr. MacCormick sarcastically replied āyeah, I bet theyād take himā and chuckled, which I interpreted as meaning my son wasnāt worth his time. For me, that was the last straw. Iām not going to let anyone talk bad about my son.
I paid a great deal of money to have my sons play hockey at Ashburn Ice House. I have spent a small fortune to send them to multiple programs at Ashburn Ice House over the past five years, in fact. I have never once complained about anything. I contacted Mr. MacCormick with legitimate concerns that arose from my son having a poor experience with the program that he is running.
My son, quite frankly, doesnāt want to play hockey anymore as a result of his poor experiences in the house league and I thought that Mr. MacCormick would be sympathetic to that as a coach and a father. I also thought that Ashburn Ice House would want the kids to have the best experience possible and love the sport. I was apparently wrong for thinking that.
I will never spend another dime at Ashburn Ice House. To fully drive home my point, I spent close to $2000 for my sons to play in this in-house league this season. The season is only 25% complete and I still decided to pull both of them out to put them in a different program.
I donāt have extra money lying around. This was an extremely difficult decision, but Iām not going to send my kids to a program run by an awful human being who doesnāt care about them. Neither of my sons will ever step foot in Ashburn Ice House again and I strongly advise anyone reading this to take their children...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Pro Shop at the rink has horrible service. I am here 4 days a week driving 45 minutes just for hockey practice. I left 40 minutes early to get there by 9:15 (close is advertised at 9:30 on Tuesday nights). When i walked in at 9:15, the door to the pro shop said "closed," and there was a guy on his phone at the front desk. I politely knock and get his attention, and he comes over to open the door and talk to me. I tell him that I know what I want and i see it on the shelve right there, and I ask if i could run in and buy it. He responds with "sorry we are closed." I respond by telling him that you aren't supposed to close until 9:30, and point at the hours right next to his head. He tells me that I can't buy anything because he closed down all the computers and such. I watch him go back to his hang out place behind his desk and pull out his phone again. He continues his cell phone addiction until 9:30, when he types something on the computer and leaves. Horrible experience, and the pro shop here has lost a loyal customer. Kettler and Total Hockey are better with better...

Ashburn Ice House has been a fantastic place for my son, who plays on a hockey team there. The facility is well-maintained, and the ice quality is consistently good. The staff is friendly and always willing to help, whether itās the coaches, pro shop employees, or front desk staff.
My son has grown so much as a player thanks to the excellent coaching and training programs. The coaches truly care about the kids and focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The rink also offers great programs for all levels, from learn-to-skate to competitive hockey.
The atmosphere is great for families, with plenty of seating and a snack bar for those long game days. The pro shop is convenient for last-minute gear needs, and their skate sharpening is top-notch.
Overall, our experience at Ashburn Ice House has been incredibly positive. Itās a great place for kids to develop their skills and love for the game, and weāre happy to be part of the...
