YZ Asian Market — Attraction in Asheville

I love this place! The staff are friendly and helpful, but they also don't follow you around as you shop, which sometimes happens in small businesses (which I get, but it makes me nervous) They have the best selection of any Asian market I think I've ever been in short of a full-size grocery store I visited in Raleigh.

Sometimes they have fresh bread from a bakery based in Atlanta I think and sandwiches; I haven't had the sandwiches, but the bread is fantastic! They also have the most reasonable prices on imported food I've seen to date.

Most stuff is cheaper than the grocery stores if you buy it from them, and if you're into Asian snacks, you know about the markups that stuff suffers. I'm sure there's still a markup because otherwise you couldn't make a profit, but it's still easily the cheapest I've seen.

YZ has been here about seven months or so, and they have worked really hard to make it their store as awesome as possible, and it shows. If you want to try Asian cooking at all, they have all the stuff you'll need. I haven't gone in search of something yet and come back...

Surroundings made me a little nervous at dusk, but standard small Asian grocery. Nice people, good selection, adorable boy helping Dad at register. They do have a selection of the standard Asian baked buns in cellophane, lots of candy, good produce, lots of frozen items, and some live food. I found everything I was looking for (pineapple cake, green melon cake, pork sung, buns in cello, bonito, the garlic shrimp chips brand I love, maesri curry, etc) I found the prices good, the place clean. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area. They are also open later than other similar stores nearby and there is an Asian restaurant coming...

Having moved to Waynesville from Boston, I was glad to see that a short drive would bring me to this place ! Great selection of Asian products, fresh fish, frozen salmon heads, jellyfish, sushi grade tuna and eel, cutlery, utensils, steamers,...pretty much everything you need to make authentic Chinese And Japanese cuisine !
