This year I got my first three tattoos, all at Empire Arts Gallery. My two most recent ones were done by Christine —a bull (which she named Charlie after my urging) and a stunning depiction of the Roman goddess Fortuna on my calf. Christine was so easy to work with. I gave her some ideas and references, and she made the designs her own, bringing everything I wanted to life.
Her line work and shading are flawless, and I’ve received so many compliments on the tattoo already! Christine worked quickly without sacrificing any quality, and she checked in on me throughout the session to make sure I was comfortable. The entire experience was made even better by the studio’s welcoming and inspiring atmosphere. Empire Arts Gallery is one of my favorite places in Atlanta (I moved here five years ago) filled with great vibes, amazing art, and a league of extraordinary women that always make me feel welcome and cared for.
I couldn’t be happier with the results and the overall experience. If you're looking for an artist who will take your ideas to the next level, I highly recommend Christine (@clu.tattoo) and Empire Arts Gallery!
Also special shout to @hannahhamestattoo! She did my first tattoo, my sankofa heart on my forearm. Thank you so much for making my first tattoo...
Read moreNestled in the heart of the well-known Kirkwood district at the corner of the historic Hosea Williams and Doyle streets is Empire Arts Gallery. Not only is it well-known for its tattoo artistry, it’s also an eclectic art gallery which showcases one of a kind local artists. To further their commitment to supporting emerging artists, Empire also hosts a monthly makers market.
Notwithstanding these laudable endeavors, Empire Arts Gallery focus on building a caring community is what sets them apart. Do not be surprised when you are greeted with a warm welcome, a cup of coffee, and a donut upon arrival. Also, it doesn’t take long to realize their deep connection to their neighborhood. It’s not uncommon to see the owners offering cold bottles of water to community members walking by.
As an artist, I love participating in their makers market because I feel welcomed as part of the family. If you haven’t experienced the Empire hospitality, stop by Kirkwood, and I promise you that visit will not...
Read moreI am leaving a 1 star review because, I have had Malia (co-owner) do a couple of simple cut and paste transfer type work done. She did a good job. Looking to have another, more custom work done. I brought in a tattoo image that I have found and ask her to modify it to work with an existing tattoo. She agrees, takes pictures with her iPad and states that it will require a $100.00 deposit. Sure, no problem... Well, when I go back to see the mark up on her iPad. it looks nothing like the image I gave her. I tell her, no, it's not even close! She gets all upset. We agree that she will rework the image. Fine. She sends me the image slightly changed, but still not even close, but I do a few modifications and send it back. Crickets. At this point I would not let her do it anyway. She had such a bad attitude the last thing I want with a new tattoo is a bad experience. If you decide to go with...
