Alma Soco — Attraction in Austin

DO NOT RENT HERE!!!! If there was an option for zero stars that would be the real rating. If we wanted to live the way that we have been, we would have enrolled in school & moved into the dorms or a frat house. First of all the "new renovations" are so half fast & sloppy. We needed an outlet in our bathroom fixed & when the handyman came the bathroom was in use, so he said he would be back in 20 minutes. One week later he returned, the same situation had happened so he said he would come back monday, a week and a half later he came to fix it & was able to after realizing the outlet wasn't even hooked up to the power. Our neighbor frequently makes noise, plays his stereo, & shouts in our window keeping us up till late at night. His girlfriend has conversations has conversations with residents in the courtyard by shouting off the patio from out front of our window late at night as well. What does management do about this? They tell us to call the police because they can't do anything after hours because there's nobody on duty. The police can't even do anything because it's management's responsibility. Eventually the manager stopped responding to our emails. Other neighbors treat the courtyard like a dorm frat party on weeknights & weekends. Their solution to both our horrible neighbor & notice to move out due to the noise & management's lack of action was to move units & renew our lease... that is NOT happening.

Also we have black MOLD in our unit. Management kept referring to it as "mildew" without even seeing it. When we told them that we have concerns about our health & safety because we're experiencing symptoms related to the mold, we were told it's not a concern because she had spoken to "So many" people with the "same situation" & "they're all ok". This is ALL before she had even seen it & when I sent her a photo, she still called it "mildew".

We also have had our furnace break & water damage to our walls, I highly question how livable these units are & the quality of maintenance done over the years. I highly recommend reading the Yelp reviews of Roscoe properties that match similar experiences to ours. I really wish we had prior to moving in & avoided this...

I loved it here! The staff was always courteous and professional towards me, and they were fast and efficient with fixing some things in my apartment. I never had any rat issues in my apartment, just some roaches and fruit flies, every now and then, but that was easy for me to take care of myself. I lived here from June 2020 - June 2022. The only reason I left, was because the new place I moved to has a better courtyard area, and a nice size outdoor pool. South Congress Commons has a great staff, in 2020 I met Anthony, (their former real estate agent), was very helpful and communicative, and was great at giving me a tour of the complex, and the available apartments. Stephanie (the Manager) is all around awesome, she manages multiple properties and she makes it look easy. Very caring, thoughtful and the epitome of what a manager should be. Stephanie takes great care of the residents, and is super appreciative of tenants that are mature and respectful of their respective units, and the complex as a whole. When I was looking to move in (in 2020) Stephanie was great at replying back to my emails, and answering any questions I had. Chrissy (their former leasing agent), was also good at assisting with any concerns/issues I had. Von (Maintenance Manager) has been a steadfast and intricate part of SoCo Commons. Friendly, professional, and courteous in not only ensuring that I had a smooth move-in, but also making sure that some minor things I needed fixed in the apartment were taken care as soon as possible. My opinion on living here has totally changed. I had some hiccups when I first was going through signing the lease but have since only known the staff here to be incredibly helpful and my neighbors to all be pretty kind! It’s a nice little community. The incredible maintenance man Fonie is so kind - he helped me put a spare tire on and is very in touch with what is going on around the grounds. I have seen a few roaches but only in the summer time and they were quick to get in my apartment to spray. Generally Chrissy and Fonie are both very responsive and caring about what goes on here. Plus the apartments are actually pretty spacious and affordable especially for the location. The neighborhood could be safer but I think that comes with being so close to downtown and I have felt safe knowing some folks in the community.
