After seeing so many deprecating and downright scary reviews of downtown Austin motels I saw that the Village Motor Inn was seemingly in a close location so I opted for it. The innkeeper and his wife were overseeing some of the housekeepers but were quite pleasant and he stopped to say hello when I arrived (albeit before check-in time). I assured them I knew I was early and would sit outside in the sun for awhile. After a bit his wife came out and informed me that the housekeeper was just finishing up and only lacked a couple of items so I was able to go ahead and check in and was very sweet. She reviewed my booking info, went over their policies and gave me my key. The motel was remodeled in 2018 but it is an older structure. The stairway and bannisters were solid and my room was on the top floor and out of the way of bustle and noise. The room had a queen bed, clean linen, fresh towels, the little shampoo envelopes were small for my amount of hair so I left those for the next occupant. The tub was ceramic and there was one little worn spot the size of a diner the back but the tub was clean, the shower head worked like one should (meaning it didn’t go off in 80 directions or WORSE, just barely spit at you! 😉) and the water was hot and I didn’t get a cloud of chlorine in my face when I turned on the faucet so, for me, that was a rather good sign… although I hadn’t asked if they filtered their water supply or not. The tv functioned but I didn’t watch it, I was exhausted. The refrigerator was exceedingly clean, no smells, spots or anything that would make you shame the door 🤣…the microwave looked very clean but I did not use it. The bed was VERY comfy (even with my sore hip) and the pillows and pillow cases smelled clean and pleasant. It was quite cool in Austin this weekend so I could’ve used a blanket but the heat source cranked to life when I turned it on and it warmed the room very adequately! If there was WiFi availability I couldn’t find it, I noticed the old, small kidney shaped pool had been filled in eons ago, the parking lot was well lit at night and visible to all. The Village Motel IS right on South Congress so I did hear police sirens wailing into the night a couple of times but I slept soundly otherwise. I saw zero evidence of bugs of any race, creed or color or signs of anything untoward that would have given me pause for thought. There’s a Poke restaurant across the side street Havana but I didn’t have time to sample their wares…this time. I felt safe in the area as I was traveling solo and was very glad I found The Village Motel! The one thing I’m disappointed about is that if I have to come back to the area I’ll need to stay elsewhere if I have my 2 elderly dogs with me (a Chihuahua and a tiny Miniature Pincher) because they do not allow pets. At. All. And NO VISITORS. But I appreciate that this is their business and livelihood and they should run it how they see...

Read moreThis will be a very honest review! So when me and my boyfriend first walked in we instantly said it smells and looks clean and once we did some further looking besides a few little spots in the bath tub the room looked really good. The room only came with 3 pillows which had next to none fluff so I called the front desk to ask for 2 more and they said they can't guarantee it but will try which i thought was odd but said okay, we ended up just getting one pillow which wasn't enough so we had to go buy another pillow. There was only two outlets in the room one by the bed and one by the bathroom sink. First that's really annoying there's lamps all over but only one was plugged in because there wasn't enough outlets and we couldn't charge our phones close to us we had to charge them over by the bathroom sink. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, it was like sleeping on a rock. Also, there was no "do not disturb" sign the we could put on the door to let the maid service know not to come in which we both thought was really weird but of course not a deal breaker. All in all the room was nice and the location was GREAT, it was close to everything which was super nice. Now would we stay here again? I'd say no just simply because the bed was soooo uncomfortable for me but if you don't care about that then this motel...
