He's one of the greatest musicians that has ever lived on this planet. The statue may not look exactly like him because it's all green. My only gripe is that the statue has a plaque on the other side away from his body near the lake. And they also should be more set about him and double trouble. I believe it would be in Austin's best interest to have some type of his music be played with a button or maybe something someone can scan via phone to get more information on him or maybe listen some of his music to listen to, well people are in the park.
But it's very easy to get to and it's not that far away from the main parking lot. And if you love Stevie Ray Vaughan you'll love going here. The park is absolutely beautiful. And it's such a dog friendly park if you have a dog.
Don't forget to take a picture and play some Stevie Ray Vaughan on your phone. While you capture the mystic and beauty of his art and the beauty of Austin. Because Austin Texas is really where Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band came together and he became this famous musician we all know about. Even though he may not have been born here. His impact is still being felt and is immense not only through the United States but the whole world.
I gave it five stars cuz I love Stevie. You're not doing it right if you're not playing Stevie Ray Vaughan music next to the statue for at least 5 minutes while...
Read morewould have loved to see more detail to the statue...the area wasn't as clean as it should be the time we were there....and SRV quit drinking and doing drugs years before he passed, God delivered him....and through rehab and AA he stayed clean and sober...watch his videos and you'll see him Thank God personally he is ALIVE AND WELL & able to be singing in concert again…thus the title Mr. Clean on one of his bootlegs....he was a Christian....love the tribute...but he was born and raised in Oak Cliff in Dallas TX...hoping they get this tribute up for him and Jimmie quickly.....they should have done it years ago...so TY Austin for honoring Stevie....hate to see his statue flood so often though……idk if he would have liked the huge lifelike statue....because he was a very humble person, probably preferred something much smaller, & he sure wouldn't want anyone calling him a GOD or a prophet....if you dont' believe me...go listen to all his interviews...he speaks about all ofthe above in several interviews/concerts...
Read moreStevie Ray Vaughan the blues guitar made famous in Austin Texas is memorialized in a very simple sculpture dated 1993 by Ralph Helmick... Despite Stevie's (SRV's) life being cut short (only age 35) by a tragic helicopter crash outside East Troy, Wisconsin, August 27th 1990... His legacy leaves a LONG shadow through the ages! SRV was hands down the most lightning fast precision blues/rock guitar player of all time and modern guitar players still look back to his amazing tallent to draw some sweet licks for their own music today. Stevie's career was just exploding before that fateful night. He will forever live on through his greatest hits like "Tightrope" "Pride and Joy" "Texas Flood" and so so many more... He will always be...
