JW Marriott Austin: A Luxurious Oasis in the Heart of Downtown
Our recent stay at the JW Marriott Austin was great, as usual. From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed the exceptional service that defines this prestigious hotel brand.
The highlight of our stay was our corner room on the 23rd floor. The panoramic views of Austin through the expansive windows on two walls were very nice, day and night. As always, the queen beds with their premium linens ensured we had restful nights throughout our stay.
The staff at JW Marriott Austin embody the spirit of hospitality. The front desk team welcomed us warmly, providing attentive service. A special mention goes to Veronica, who worked tirelessly at the 5th-floor breakfast service, ensuring tables were promptly prepared and guests were well-cared for. Her kindness and efficiency stood out and elevated our breakfast experience.
While we didn't dine at the hotel restaurants during this particular visit, our past experiences have consistently been excellent across all their dining and drinking options.
The hotel's location is ideal for both business and leisure travelers. Situated in downtown Austin, it offers easy access to the city's attractions while being far enough from the nighttime bustle of 6th Street to ensure a peaceful stay. For those attending the ACL Music Festival as we were, the hotel is very convenient. The 35-minute walk to Zilker Park is pleasant, and the Platinum VIP shuttle service is an easy option for those preferring a ride.
Although we didn't have the chance to use it this time, the pool area visible from our room was inviting and well-maintained. The sight of attentive servers catering to guests by the pool highlighted the hotel's commitment to providing a resort-like experience even in an urban setting.
In conclusion, the JW Marriott Austin continues to impress with its blend of luxury, service, and prime location. Whether you're in Austin for business, pleasure, or a special event like ACL, this hotel offers an experience that will likely exceed your expectations and leave you eagerly anticipating your next visit. It has been stays like this that inspire me to remain Ambassador Elite...
Read moreThe room and bathroom are nice, lobby area big and well laid out, gym is spacious and complete. The coffee station is a bit tricky. The machine and coffee pods are all there but the creamer and sugar is sort of hidden. Those are in a center consul that doesn’t look like it can open so you might think housekeeping forgot to leave creamer and sugar. The burger bar is pretty good though you can’t put this to a room charge even though it’s supposedly within the hotel property. Overall a comfortable hotel. The only source of annoyance is their $25 “destination fee” daily charge. I’ve seen daily “resort fee” for resorts in the Caribbean or Hawaii. I’ve travelled a lot and don’t recall any such daily destination fee for city hotels. You get some perks for your fee, the main one being that you get $25 off per day for dining at their hotel restaurants (except the burger bar). The way it works is you charge your meal to your room and you get $25 off each dining bill at check out. But you can’t accumulate the credits, it has to be used each day. And if you don’t dine, then the daily fee is still getting charged, you just won’t have enjoyed a discount. Ok simple right? Not exactly. They consider your day of check in as the first day. I stayed 2 nights, checked in Thu and out on Sat. I dined at their Corner Restaurant on Fri morning for exactly $25 and again on Sat morning for exactly $25. So I figure I will get my $25 credit for each meal, and incur zero food bill. Apparently they consider that I didn’t use my credit on Thu, gave me the credit for Fri dining, and charged me full bill for the Sat dining. Well that’s a total gyp. 2 nights, 2x dining, should be 2x credit. When I got the bill, I called to complain and she agreed to take it off but it was defensive - she was clearly taking the stance, ok I will do you a favor vs being apologetic for a crappy hotel policy. This destination fee has a “slimy” feel to it. It’s not what top hotels do, it’s amateur hour con job stuff. Management should scrap that annoying fee and just charge $25 per night more...
Read moreSpent a several days here during a large work conference. Overall, the stay was really nice. The beds and pillows are comfy and the rooms are clean. I did not use room service during my stay so cannot speak to that but others said housekeeping was fantastic.
My main issues with the hotel are the parking garage and, interestingly, how much the building sways.
The parking garage has an entrance of 8' but once you get to the first floor, the ramp to the next floor is only 6'8". My truck is 7' tall, so my only option was to park on the first floor, which is not marked clearly and is extremely difficult to navigate in a large pickup. I struggled with finding a space (valet assisted) and once I did find a space, my truck didn't fit so I had to wait for someone to leave. The garage is really only good for small passenger vehicles, despite having an entrance of 8'. I'm glad I had protection for my truck during my stay because it stormed, but I will definitely not drive it next time.
The building SWAYS. I was on the 16th floor and was nauseous a lot because of how much it moved. It felt worse in the room's bathroom (very disorienting) and the elevators also seemed to move more than usual. I thought I was crazy but other people said it was bothering them too. One guy even said he had to lean on his sink to brush his teeth. I wasn't concerned about safety as I know this isn't unusual but I was very uncomfortable for a good part of the trip.
The pool is great and all the bars are nice (a little pricey though). Gym was also clean and had a good variety of equipment.
Staff was friendly and helpful any time I had a question.
Overall I was pleased with my stay but will certainly request a lower floor next time. If you are sensitive to building movement, you will want to do the same.
You will also want to bring a jacket if here for a conference. They keep those rooms...
