I give this place a 0.75 out of 5 stars. I went here once, in July of 2024 to see Regina Spektor. Before I get into why my rating is so low, I will say that overall the employees working there were mostly polite. I bought a bottle of water before the show and it wasn't as crazy expensive as it could have been (it was expensive, but I was expecting worse). Now, on to the issues that cause this low rating: The sound quality. I was sitting in the front center pit area. Maybe the sound quality is better elsewhere at this venue, the front isn't always the best, but I've sat in similar seats at many concerts and this was the worst of them. When Regina was speaking between songs, I couldn't understand what she was saying. Luckily, when she sang, you could hear her beautiful voice, but it wasn't as clear as it should have been. The sound quality overall was just bad. Security. I'm not talking about any employees, but the security set up. For those of you who don't know Regina Spektor, the show consisted of Regina and her piano (except for one song when she used her keyboard and one when she used a guitar, but basically this is one singer singing while playing a piano). Right before she started, they had a security guard sit down right in front of us and face us. He was up against the stage and sat in the exact same spot the entire concert. Other security guards were posted elsewhere, but it was very distracting at this kind of a show to have somebody right in front of you facing you the entire show. Additionally, there were multiple times you could hear his walkie talkie over the music. At one point, Regina even made some sort of a joke about hearing a walkie talkie (since the sound quality was so bad, I couldn't make out everything she said, but she talked about the walkie talkie noise---I assume that was her polite way of complaining about there being walkie talkie noise while she was singing---remember this is one person singing with a piano, some songs are soft and a walkie talkie going off is certainly distracting). I found it extremely disturbing and it was hard to enjoy the show with the walkie talkie noise and a guard facing us the entire show. I've seen Regina once before, and sat in a similar seat at another venue---sound quality was great at the other venue, certainly no security facing out at you the entire time and definitely no walkie talkies. Other items---a. The place felt run-down. b. When I checked their website before heading to the show, I didn't see a single item in the concessions marked as vegan. c. When we headed in through metal detectors they had no bins to put the items in our pockets in so the guard handled all of my stuff (not that this is a huge deal, but I'd rather not have another person handling my cell phone and wallet and other items when there shouldn't have...
Read moreWish I could give zero stars. Avoid this shambling fossil of a theater at all costs. Lines to get in are long because of their ridiculous bag policy. They think they're a big sports stadium but they have inadequate measures and staff for security.
LADIES BEWARE: If you bring a purse even a hair larger than a tiny clutch, you will be denied entry. They sent an email prior to the show saying no bags larger than 6"x8"x2". When you get to the front of the line, the little containers they use to measure your bag have got to be smaller than their requirements. When I was talking to the bag checker because my purse is the correct size but she could've just tried turning it a different way to make it fit, a bald, clearly overcompensating security guy came over to yell at me that I was holding up the line. He yelled at me to go leave my purse in my car or in their lockers outside. Lockers you have to pay $15 to use! More than half the women still waiting in line were eventually also denied entry and were also incredulous my small bag was denied. When I got into a different line the second time, that bag checker waved through a woman whose bag was a bit larger than the container (and my bag!). No consistency at all!
Beyond the rudeness and the blatant cash-grab of a purse policy, this theater is subpar. The sound is awful and the chair cushions worn out and flat. I guess their uncomfortable, stadium-like seating is the reason for their stadium-like bag policy.
My boyfriend and I attended the Princess Bride screening and Q&A. The Lyric's interviewer had one job and was terrible at it. He kept asking questions that were redundant due to answers already provided by Cary Elwes, who was very gracious about it.
And if all that wasn't enough, the fees the Lyric charges on top of the Ticketmaster fees are out of pocket. Not sure where all the money goes because the place is so run-down.
Don't go to a show here — this place is a hassle and...
Read moreI took a girls trip with a friend to see a comedy show in Baltimore and after a Google search, came across the Ulysses hotel, which had only opened a week or so prior to my search. I saw the pictures online and fell in love immediately with this hotel. The pictures don't even start to do it justice! The valet staff were so sweet! Tia checked us in and my friend and I brought our stuff in and literally took a video of how cute the room was within the first minute of getting there. We had to start getting ready for our show, so I plugged in my straightener and blew a fuse in the room. Jasmine came right up to our room and ended up moving us because they couldn't fix it right away and they knew we were trying to get ready to head out. Haley even threw in a bottle of champaign for the "trouble" (it was no trouble at all). We got ready in our new room and went to Blooms for a quick before show drink where Maja gave us her recommendations (which were INCREDIBLE) and even told us where we could grab a bite to eat after the show. Tia gave me the website to buy lotion and other Ulysses goodies. Breakfast was melt in your mouth amazing. The buttermilk waffles and the smoked salmon and eggs are the greatest things my friend and I have ever eaten and Haley remembered us and asked how the show was. The staff takes great care of their guests and they live by their catch phrase of "Soft beds and strong drinks" (I may have that backwards...but both ring true). The rooms are very clean and the beds are VERY soft. The drinks and food are amazing. I will never stay anywhere else in Baltimore. The area is very safe. We walked to the Lyric and never felt unsafe as 2 young women out on the town away from our kiddos. It was an incredible trip! I may have to travel to Baltimore just to stay at...
