The Meyerhoff is a building of its time. Opened in 1982, and having been refurbished/redecorated very minimally, the place reminds one of the era of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, and Krystal and Alexis Carrington fighting in a fountain, dressed in Nolan Miller gowns with shoulders as wide as a linebacker has in full pads. In my opinion, it's not a handsome building, either inside or out.
However, it is the home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Baltimore - one of the best orchestras playing concerts today, bar none; and the hall compliments the orchestra's finesse, elegance, and transparency.
If you live in Baltimore and have never enjoyed a concert by the BSO in the Meyerhoff, you are missing one of Baltimore's greatest treasures.
That means that all the ugly brown brick and 1970's-1980's aesthetic, becomes lovely when filled with the excellence that one encounters in the building, in the hall. And big lapels, big hair, shoulder pads, and bell bottoms come back in style...
Read moreWe took our kids to Danny Go on June 7th. The venue itself was nice; the seats were comfortable. My two complaints are about the security for parking & locating our seats. For parking, we were stopped for over 30 minutes in front of the venue. They would let one car out from our lane & multiple cars from the other lane. Once we got close enough, they were telling us to go to a different parking garage. We were finally able to park in a garage 2 blocks away. If I knew they weren't going to let us though, I would have parked there initially. We were frustrated; the kids were frustrated. Once we got into the venue, trying to find our seats was tough. We weren't the only ones with this issue. You can see other adults with children going up and down multiple stairs, in and out multiple doors, trying to find their seats. Ushers were hard to find. Overall, we would go back to this venue now knowing about where to park and how the...
Read moreThis is a beautiful venue. We had a corporate function here. My only critique would be that the common areas on the main floor can get quite crowded when the auditorium is full. Although there are common spaces on the upper levels, people seldom go there before the showtimes. So, my recommendation (if you want to avoid crowds) would be to go to the upper levels and enjoy the seating and common spaces available there. Relative to seating for the show, there is not a bad seat in the house. I was in the upper middle right and the view was very good. The incline of the tier prevents those in front of you from blocking your view (unless they are unusually tall). The acoustics were excellent - as you...
