A family member scheduled a massage for me as a gift. At the time the appointment was made, my family member was unaware that I am currently pregnant, as I have not yet shared this news publicly. I was initially concerned that I might not be eligible to receive the service due to my pregnancy.
After reviewing Spa Serenity’s website, I saw that they offer a “Prenatal, Mother-to-Be Massage.” According to their website:
“A Prenatal Massage is specially designed for a mother-to-be. Using extra pillows and alternating between a sideline position and placing you on your back, our licensed technicians will help ease the tension and stress from your overworked body. Massage is provided for those during a healthy, normal pregnancy, second trimester to full term. For high-risk and first trimester pregnancies, please provide a doctor’s note. *Can be substituted for any Therapeutic Massage in a package.”
Given this, I obtained a letter from my physician clearing me for massage during my pregnancy and brought it with me to the appointment.
Upon arrival, I provided my name, appointment time, and the doctor’s note. I was then told that the therapist assigned to me was not trained in prenatal massage and they would need to check with someone else. I was asked how far along I was, and I responded, “9 weeks.” I was then asked to wait in the lounge.
A few minutes later, a staff member returned and informed me that they would not be able to offer any services, stating they do not provide massage to anyone in the first trimester. This directly contradicted the information on their website, which clearly states that first-trimester clients are accepted with a doctor’s note—which I provided. I asked for clarification, and she confirmed they would not proceed, despite my doctor’s approval. She further added, “My sister is a massage therapist and wouldn’t touch me when I was in my first trimester.”
They canceled my appointment and offered to reschedule for a later date, after I am out of my first trimester. Had I known they would refuse service despite meeting the stated requirements, I would not have made the trip, rearranged my day, or gotten my hopes up for an appointment I was truly looking forward to. The entire experience was disappointing and upsetting.
Spa Serenity’s policies, as outlined on their website, are misleading. They claim to allow prenatal massage during the first trimester with a doctor’s note, yet refused to honor that for me. This discrepancy constitutes false or deceptive advertising.
Under Wisconsin law, false or deceptive advertising is prohibited by the Deceptive Trade Practices Act (Wis. Stat. § 100.18). I believe this situation falls under that statute and deserves to...
Read moreI went to spa serenity for several waxing treatments, lips, eyebrows, arm pits, full leg and a Brazilian. The shop had a very great atmosphere. The ladies were really sweet and nice. The lady that did the waxing was very professional and nice. However after returning home i went to look at the waxing areas and huge parts of my Brazilian was still there. I was very irritated. The following day I called up the spa and talked to the front desk. They assured me that Coustmer service is their main priority and they would have their director/ supervisor call me by the end of the day or the latest by Monday. Well Monday came and went. And figured they had gotten busy and forgot to call so after a week of not receiveing a return call I called to cancel my next appointment that I had booked. While talking on the phone to the receptionist she asked why I was canceling and I simply replied that I wasn’t satisfied with my last waxing and I felt if Coustmer service wasn’t their priority I needed to take my business somewhere else. She was like okay fine and canceled and that was the end of that. For me working in Coustmer service my entire life i would find it simple to pick up a phone to call and spend 10 minutes with someone who spent close to 200 dollars in waxing services who would have been a repeat Coustmer and easy profit for life. Before this time I was thinking of becoming a vip with them but I would not now knowing how little they actually care about the end result. I don’t enjoy writing negative reviews but this by far has been one of my worst experiences at a spa.
Update: Did receive call from spa after this post returned the call and owner was not available 30 minutes after she had called me the receptionist said she would call her cell and let her know I called this was 2 days ago and still haven’t received...
Read moreFor the celebration of our anniversary, my husband and I booked a 90 minute couples massage. I am just beginning my third trimester of pregnancy. So I was looking forward to a nice relaxing massage for muscle tension relief. My husband wanted a nice relaxing massage as well. Mine was very light pressure, comparable to lightly applying lotion to skin. Minimal time spent on massaging back. Very minimal time spent on hands. No touch to the feet other than one quick swipe with oil. I am on my feet all day and I even mentioned before beginning that I would like my feet and hands massaged. Scalp and shoulder massage was nice. My husband’s massage was enjoyable for the most part, but on many occasions was very hard pressure on pressure points— causing pain. His massage therapist was coughing throughout and he could feel her breathing in his face while massaging. She even left the room for a short amount of time due to an “allergy attack”. It was still a nice relaxing time away and to have the opportunity to be together. Nice decor and ambiance. We would be happy to try again, but would be disappointed if the...
