A few of the nurses were great. I had my 3rd child at this "hospital". My other 2 were born at Wesley Medical Center and I wish I would have stayed there. We were informed the baby would stay in the room with us at all times. That was a big ol lie! It was a fight to get a hour of skin to skin after giving birth. Then they took her to a nursery to clean her, weigh her, etc....the nurse in charge of her that night rushed my husband out. Her tone was rude and we weren't allowed to be in there because she needed to do her routine without us in the way. It's on video so we have proof of her words. Then my daughter was kept in the nursery by herself under the heat lamp because she needed to warm up. Correct me if I'm wrong but skin to skin is a LOT better than a heat lamp to warm a newborn. Then I had to throw a fit to get her back after the nurse keeping her for 2 hours. Following that they grabbed her to take her hearing test. It was too early for her test so she failed it. She was a little over 7 hours old she needed to be at least 9. That took an hour. I nursed both babies before her and they insisted that I wake her and feed her. No, if she's not hungry she won't eat. She's 4 weeks early so she's not going to follow a "typical" newborn pattern. They gave her formula because her blood sugar dropped. I didn't get the chance to nurse like they knew I was doing. The last day here I was informed that having my bed up to the height of the infant bed was too high and I wasn't allowed to do that so she lowered me. Then tried adjusting my air level because it was hot to her. I'm comfortable and my child is staying warm LEAVE IT ALONE. She touched it anyway. My daughter had to be under phototherapy and before we started she insisted I nurse her then give her sugar water. Well the pediatrician and I agreed to skip that and go ahead and get her under the light. I managed to get her to eat 6 ml of sugar water but no nursing. The nurse told me, "I deal with babies everyday I can get her to drink it" I had to tell her no multiple times and I agree with the dr. Skip it and go to the light. She was hesitant to do what I asked. I will NEVER return to this hospital. And I will advise everyone against their labor...
Read moreThey say things happen for a reason. My Dad ended up having to go to Ochsner Medical Center - Hancock. Being in healthcare for 20 years and having worked in the hospital system 15 + years I know good compassionate care when I see it. Every single person from the moment my Dad was brought in until his last breath was exceptional. Every nurse (Madeline, Gerri, Austin, Robin, Amber) and patient care tech (Jasmine), Case Manager (Jane), respiratory therapy, occupational therapy and the doctor (Dr. K) were so gentle and caring. They gave us hugs and words of comfort. One thing we were really shocked and impressed with was on our first night. Our night shift nurse came in and told us they had placed a table with some snacks and coffee outside of the room for us to have while we were there. When we went outside the room to take a look we were expecting just snacks and coffee but instead were surprised by this beautiful display that brought us to tears. It was so thoughtful and made us feel welcomed and that they really cared. The next morning one of the nurses (Gerri) even brought us breakfast that she must have paid for on her own. The doctor was very gentle, straight forward and not arrogant or in a rush each time he came to see Dad. He was very kind in his words and helped us to feel the best we could about our decisions. They never rushed us and gave us all the time we needed. The clergy that came to pray for us were also kind and understanding. It's a small hospital but those can often be the best because it's more like a family and we felt it. So this is our shout out to the amazing staff at Oschner Hancock Medical. Thank you all for being so compassionate and caring at the most difficult time. It...
Read moreI was recently in the emergency room with chest pains and shortness of breath. They took me straight back and began to hook me up to monitors and did a chest xray and bloodwork but never once saw Dr. Griffith or the rest of the staff for 2 hrs or more. I laid in that bed with no one even checking in on me for 2 hrs. Alittle back story in all their initial questions they asked me about my rxs and asked me specifically about my xanax when I said I had taken 1/2 my recommended dose earlier that day to see if it would help with the anxiety of being in pain, they also asked about street drugs and when I said I smoked weed for chronic pain every now and then, they went outside my door and all I heard was a Male voice saying that I could wait. Now back to story, apparently that put me on the bottom of the list for this Dr Griffith. Now they hadn't even done xrays or anything else but I was put on the back burner and left for the next shift . Then the wonderful Dr Dempsey came in was horrified by the way I had been treated or not treated by Dr. Griffith. Within 2 hrs more and I was out of there with a diagnosis of pneumonia in my left lung, antibiotics given and pain meds given without request. I dont care about what Dr. Griffith thinks about me but I'm no druggy! I work I pay Bill's and have been contributing to society for 54 yrs. And the treatment I got there June 15 was deplorable and borders on medical malpractice. But I wont do that as I am not that person either Dr. Griffith but I sure hope my review stops anyone from being treated this way by you and your staff. Dr Dempsey is a wonderful, caring and compassionate woman and she is a better Dr than you Dr. Griffith...
