Disappointing Experience with this Costco: A Frustrating Encounter with Their Customer Service I purchased a 12-pack of Naked. On one occasion, I discovered that one of the bottles was spoiled upon opening it, as it emitted a sound similar to that of a carbonated beverage. Subsequently, I inspected the remaining bottles in my fridge and identified another spoiled one. On the same day, I decided to return the two spoiled bottles to a this Costco warehouse. Initially, the associate offered to refund only the cost of the two bottles and performed a calculation on the spot, all while wearing an expression that indicated my concern was somewhat unreasonable. I found it unusual that their approach did not align with my expectations. Generally, when a product is spoiled prior to its consumption and not as a result of consumer mishandling, it is customary to receive a full refund, as is often the case with products like milk. However, the associate insisted that a full refund could only be processed if all the remaining bottles were returned, which I found impractical. People do not typically retain items with the expectation of potential spoilage for the purpose of returns. Additionally, she mentioned that I had originally purchased the product at the Union Costco and advised me to seek a refund there. Subsequently, the membership manager, Emily, intervened in the matter. However, she was unable to resolve the issue to my satisfaction. I outlined the situation and agreed to accept a refund for the two spoiled bottles, provided I could return the remaining ones if they too turned out to be spoiled. Nevertheless, Emily reiterated that the customary practice is to return the product to the store of purchase, and different warehouses may have varying policies. She also emphasized that no further refunds would be possible if any of the remaining bottles were found to be spoiled. These two points of contention left me dissatisfied. I view Costco as a unified entity and am perplexed by the consistent emphasis on returning products to their respective points of purchase. I am curious whether there are any key performance indicators (KPIs) influencing this policy. If so, I am interested in understanding whether this policy is primarily driven by customer benefit or by the company's interests. Despite my reservations, I acquiesced to the condition that I could only return spoiled bottles, and they made it clear that if I returned the two spoiled bottles, I would not be allowed to bring back any remaining bottles if they turned out to be spoiled. This approach seemed to prioritize their own convenience over the convenience of the customers. I left the store immediately then I picked up the remaining and went to Costco Union, they gave me the full refund.

This is a very nice Costco location. Crazy enough if you blink your eyes you will think you are in the Teterboro NJ location. This is due to the internal layout being nearly identical other than slight differences at the entrance and exit. Employees were friendly. Not as many customers so the lines were a lot smaller and faster. Items were organized nicely and very clean here. On a side note, I found 2 items here that have the black star on them (items that are discontinued and won't be restocked). These 2 items were already sold out and long gone for over 2 months at the Teterboro and Hackensack locations (Pantene 5 in 1 shampoo & conditioner). The new product replacing it is called Pantene 10 in 1. Same size, same bottle, same pump, same ingredients but a bidenflation increase in price of $4 per bottle or $8 total if you want to get both shampoo and conditioner. So if you are looking for black starred, discontinued Costco items, this Bayonne location might still have a reserve supply in stock. New roast beef sandwich is here at the Bayonne location, but for some dumb reason they pre-mix all the ingredients so there is no way to get a sandwich without onions, garlic, mushrooms or other ingredients. No way to get a plain roast beef sandwich. Other people were complaining of the super high price on this new sandwich at $10 which I totally agree. The rest of the snack bar has affordable items around a dollar or 2. You can get a whole delicious large pizza for the same $10. Well since we can't get a plain roast beef sandwich I won't care if they end up discontinuing this. The parking lot here is vastly superior with mostly friendly shoppers, no fighting for spots, no lunatics trying to grab a parking spot like as if their life depended on it (and willing to attack and shed blood with anyone who dares attempt to take the spot they want).. this may be due to the time and day I visited this location. It might be possible that they also have crazy parking spot road raging lunatics during different days or times? Anyway, the location and position of the Costco Gas station seems to work better here in Bayonne than at Teterboro. In the Teterboro location, on a busy day the line of cars gets so huge that it clogs not only the parking lot but the main artery linking the main road into and out of the parking lot which just becomes a giant mess. In Bayonne, the gas is off to the side from the main lot and didn't seem to affect the people parking and exiting Costco.

One of the female staffs at the entrance today is definitely racist. All people in front of me scanned the membership card and walked in without ID checking. But I was stopped by this staff after I successfully scanned my card. She asked to check my membership card and I showed her on my phone on the Costco App. This card is a household card given to me from my mom who holds the primary card in china. The moment she saw my phone she immediately said “I don’t understand Chinese. Show me your name and the photo in the app.”, without me ever explaining to her that this is a card opened in china. This suggests she’s probably stopping me out of nowhere just because she’s racists against Chinese. And when I explained to her this is a household card she said “there’s no such thing”. She definitely needs to have better training. A good thing about Costco is that their membership card can be used internationally but this staff today gave me such an unpleasant experience that significantly downgraded my impression of Costco good service. It’s not my responsibility to change my phone language for her to understand what’s showing on the Costco app and she should have better training that Costco has international app that the interface looks different and photo might not be shown especially for the household card. Eventually I have to translate my name on google to English so that she can confirm it matches with the English Name of mine on my ID card. And she refused to apologize, looked reluctant to let me in, making me feel like I’m a liar. This staff is so rude, so unprofessional, lack of training and racist. I would never visit this Costco again.
