Interesting place for people to gather. Food is overpriced. Most booths are overpriced. I don't understand. Is this a club to just walk around and mingle? I don't understand the business plan. Why is everything so overpriced. The booth owners seem to just take their stuff and display it and take it back with them. Who is making the money here? Just asking. One of the most non business friendly places I've been. It seems quaint and a has been for the well connected. But I don't see a healthy business aspect of it. Nice people for the most part are doing booths. A few not so friendly. But wow, this place needs some help to expand and grow. It seems like something or someone is setting on this place choking it. It seems stale and out of touch. Maybe it will change one day. I enjoy going here sometimes hoping to see it change and pick up. Just being anilitical not critical. I want to see it succeed. This gets my: interesting but, there are better places to go to spend time and money. Update: Dec 10, 2023... Nothing has changed much except some of the booths has changed. The theory here is give people little and charge more. It still has a distant vibe. Personnel here are for the most part not very friendly. A few of the new ones try more. The pricing on goods and foods are almost at an LA or Large city fare. Sandwiches at big city markets are a little bit more pricey. The food here has more of a don't buy this look. They don't understand presentation. It just seems like going to a carefree event. Just do whatever and expect a bunch of money. The coffee booth, for instance, wow, what a great presentation and friendly and great prices for really good products. The food sector otherwise almost resembles another country I visited. I want it to get better at this location. I see a lot of potential. But I keep getting knocked over with so little effort I see. Hopefully this place will improve. Something has to change. Because there are a lot of really great tenants and customers...
Read moreMy first time at 2nd Market St was a huge success, and I'm already looking forward to my next trip. Despite it being a busy day with ballgames and festivals, the atmosphere was wonderful, with beautiful flowers, artisan booths, and the relaxing sound of live saxophone music. For lunch, we were blown away by Gunash Mediterranean Cuisine. I ordered the chicken kebab, and my husband had the daily lamb döner kebab special. The rice was incredibly buttery and the vegetables were cooked to perfection—they made me want more vegetables (win)! Everything was so flavorful and clearly made with care.
Afterward, we grabbed iced coffees from Jim's Organic Coffee. My husband isn't usually a fan of iced coffee, but he immediately said, "Oh, that's a good cup of coffee!" I was thrilled to find they had sugar-free hazelnut syrup, which was a delicious, unexpected treat.
To top it all off, I discovered Mrs. Ernestine's Pound Cakes. As someone with gluten sensitivities, I was so happy to find a truly amazing dessert. I got the whole bean pie supreme, and it was sublime. The pie has a pumpkin-like texture with the warm spices of an apple pie, and the sweetness is just right. I couldn't believe it was made with navy beans!
Overall, 2nd Market St is a vibrant and welcoming place with incredible vendors. I'm so glad I finally visited and will...
Read moreSmall but cute public market! There were a lot of vendors when we came despite the cloudy/rainy weather, and there were also many food stands to choose from. We tried the meat pies, crepes, and a tiramisu here for lunch, all were very nice! Meat pies: we had a beef pie and a chicken pie. Both were a bit too soupy to my likings but I believe it's very authentic given how the pies were made with love and the how fast the pies sold out! I really liked the pie crust though, it was flaky and buttery and complimented the fillings really well. Crepe: we had a savory crepe with an egg, ham, and cheese in it. It was so good! The eggs were a tad bit undercooked though, but the honey mustard sauce was heavenly. This crepe is no doubt my favorite order among the food we got at the market that day. Tiramisu: has a good heart portion and great flavors! My boyfriend and I ordered one and the portion size was perfect to share. We also ordered a homemade peach tea to go with it but was disappointed. The tea tasted like literal water and it wasn't cheap either! It had a slice of peach and a slice of lemon in it, but that didn't...
