El Ahorro Supermarket — Attraction in Bellaire

Store is clean and organized most associates are friendly most, I recently started buying from here a bit more regularly but today I witnessed a health hazard!!! I was waiting at the hot cooked food counter looking to see what I was going to order to eat, when the cashier comes up and hands a box of packed cooked carnitas to the servers on the other side. So basically a customer ordered the carnitas and at the register he decided he didn't want it and left it so the cashier took it back to the cooked counter and they put the food back in with the rest of the food. Yuck... I should of recorded it. #1 That food was out of the temperature controlled area the entire time the customer HELD IT #2 its cross contamination and a sanitation issue and #3 is worse during the COVID19 PANDEMIC this customer, the cashier, and the servers all came in contact with it and inhaled and exhaled all over and around it. How do we know he wasn't positive for COVID 😑 what a let down definitely didn't...

The produce is old and spoils in a couple days. I bought a bunch of produce (celery, tomatoes, onions and green peppers (the other peppers looked gross)) on Thursday and by Saturday they were spoiled. Had to throw it all out. Also I looked at their other produce ones that need water and they were so dry and old as if they sat there for 30 days without water. Went to Walmart after and I said “yeah that place definitely needs to take care of their produce better.” The milk cartons are dirty and a lot of the crates have cracked eggs. Front cashiers are rude. They don’t greet you, just start scanning your stuff and move on to the next person like how about “hi how are you?” And “have a nice day.” Employees walking around were super stand offish and kept staring/following me. Tried to not attribute it to me being Black but it was too obvious. Also when I was in the produce section the nail lady asked if I wanted my nails done. No I’m here...

First time coming here and will be last. Terrible service. I went in to order from the hot bar, there was a young lady there fixing some tacos, I was under impression that she was helping another customer. Then this other girl comes from the back, looks at me, literally smirks, then walks to the back as I am telling her Im interested in ordering something. The girl that was fixing the plate walks away, I then realize she was serving herself on break or lunch. The girl in the back came out then acknowledges the man that walked up to the counter next to me, then PROCEEDS TO TAKE HIS ORDER, like I didn’t exist. I ask if there was a process here to order, and she just pointed to the cashiers…. Very rude, not helpful, not a business I would recommend worth visiting, better off going to Michoacana meat market as they at the least acknowledge their patrons.
