my girlfriend & I rented The Indio last night; she is a big Dave Matthews fan, and the band was playing nearby on 08/29 ...
we did not encounter a single insect inside the trailer - which was cool because there was a review here about a week ago complaining about bugs in the trailer - and we found it much cleaner than expected [uploaded pics, so you can see for yourself].
we were incredibly impressed with the communication.
we booked the resevation months in advance, but my girlfriend had contacted The Camp shortly before the reservation date, as the nearby wildfires caused the air quality in Bend to reach unsafe levels. The GM, Tyler Nicoll, gave her a first-hand account of the air quality at that moment and shared the local weather/wind forecasts
[In the end, the wind did its thing, the air quality improved and the weather throughout the show was very pleasant].
The site is basically an 'elevated' trailer park. That's what it is. The place is definitely not a vintage-trailer-themed hotel, which was why we booked it - we wanted to dig that RV experience. Half of the place is eight (8) actual vintage trailers (so if the air quality IS bad from wildfires, by the way, these aren't gonna offer much in the way of filtering - they're f%#@ing vintage) and the other half is designated spots for campers/trailers/RVs to park and, I dunno ... connect and plug things in or whatnot.
There is a real cool common area with a fire pit, complimentary coffee and books/ throw blankets to borrow. There is also a trailer that has been converted into a hair salon. The Camp is walking distance to the Hayden Homes Ampitheater, which was really convenient.
The Indio has a small toilet inside, but there are separate trailers with toilets, showers and laundry machines. The toilets/showers were adequately clean - again, on the spectrum of hospitality The Camp is closer to a campsite than a motel/hotel. Something to keep in mind, should you be expecting all the amenities of a motel/hotel (if that's what you're looking for, some negative Yelp review from 2019 mentioned that "the Motel West down the road" was acceptable).
Tyler hung out and chatted with guests in the common area after the DMB show. Both Tyler and Ronald (an employee) were cheerfully greeting guests while they busily went about their duties this morning. As we were leaving Tyler provided several recommendations for brunch in the area (the one we went to was really nice).
We will definitely be staying at The Camp again (want to try the other trailers!), and would absolutely recommend...
Read moreBefore I start, I want to state that we were on a three month road trip where we stayed at over 60 campgrounds and this is my only negative review.
The good: Great location in the heart of bend, great social area with fire pit and grills, free coffee in the morning for the first 10 or so campers (they don't refill the coffee)
The bad: The showers are a metal box with no windows or fans or air, they are like an overheating green house without windows, they have a button to push for ten seconds of water and then it shuts off, the fans are sitting there but not connected to any electricity, I expect this out of a state park bathroom that hasn't been upgraded since the 80s, not a 100+ dollar a night spot, I repeat it is so hot and humid in the bathrooms you can not dry off. This is enough that I would not return. Other comments explained this but said that the fans were broken, this gives the idea they may be fixed, this is not true, they are not hooked up to electric at all, this is by design not broken.
The worst: We got completely shafted on our campsite, Our spot was in the back, it was a parking spot with zero trees, zero bushes, no campfire pit, and no charm, it was a parking spot, the equivalent of parking at Walmart for over 100 dollars. 75% of the spots are somewhat nice along the edge with shade and trees but there are 5 spots that are horrendous, I felt so robbed that I had to spend as much as the other people but we were sitting in burning hell. During one night at the campfire a camper made a comment about how unlucky it would be to get one of the spots along the back, they had no idea we were the ones back there. At one point, a van with a lone camper pulled up and asked me if this is "for real". He waited around to talk to a camp host or employee, but no one ever came o the office in that hour and he laughed and said no way to this and left. I finally found someone in the office and asked if they had another spot, without looking he said no, our entire stay there were spots open even for 3 days straight. I will never go back here.
Overall: If you like camping, this is not a good spot for you, if you need a spot to be neat bend at any cost,...
Read moreI really wish I could sing the praises of The Camp as other reviewers have. Unfortunately, our stay wasn't exceptional. We spent Father's Day weekend staying in "The Draper".
Pros: -Super cool concept and awesome execution of period correct style, furniture and decor. Awesome restoration work done on the interior of the trailer. -Convenient. -Super easy contactless check in and check out.
Cons: -While other reviews raved about cleanliness, we did not have the same experience. The first bathroom I went into had a long hair throughout and a used razor on the shower floor. This was on Saturday night. On Monday morning, it was still there. With multiple campsites sharing 4 bathrooms/showers, one would expect that they would be cleaned daily. This obviously wasn't the case. -Upon unfolding my shower towel, it was obvious that it was rust stained. Gross! Luckily I bumped into the housekeepers after brunch and they were super accommodating in replacing our towels. -Did I mention that it was convenient? With this also means that it is adjacent to a busy and noisy road as well as a train depot. Do you know what time trains get started? Early. Very early. -Vague descriptions. Our unit had a "bathroom". That's a toilet. It had a fridge. It's mini. It had a basic stocked kitchen. That's knives, forks, spoons, plates, and bowls. Need salt and pepper? Tongs for the BBQ? More than one dish towel? Hope you brought your own. -There were also a few beach cruiser bikes on a bike rack that appeared to be available for guests, however nowhere was there any way to utilize them. -Upon packing up to leave, what appeared to be staff was present on the property. I found it unusual that in the hospitality industry that a friendly "hello, how was your stay?" wasn't exchanged.
All in all, it's a super cool novelty. While I don't regret staying here, I most likely won't be back. Kind of a "been there, done that". I left exhausted. If you're looking for a place where you'll feel refreshed, might I suggest...
