New York City Sub Shop - Midtown Bend — Restaurant in Bend

Worst service experience! I used to love this place.. we were here a while ago while visiting Bend and LOVED IT!!! We enjoyed it so much anytime we were in Bend we would make a point to stop.. Recently when we were back in Bend we were excited to eat here. When we arrived my wife asked the young man at the counter what was on a sandwich, he answered by pointing to a sign hanging above, she placed her order and I chose a sandwich and asked to add yellow mustard in place of mayo. The young men then told me very gruffly that they don't have any mustard of any kind in their store... I was puzzled and couldn't understand why he was so rude and decided I would pick a sandwich that I felt I would enjoy without mustard -I chose the Philly cheese steak... Considering I grew up in Philly I was NOT realistically expecting a real Philly steak sandwich. However, knowing that everyone is different I asked what came on the Philly at which point the young man very gruffly and with a sense of urgency (we were the only customers there) again pointed to the sign hanging above and stated that these ingredients are in EVERY sandwich... I chose not to order anything at this point considering I felt like I had wasted so much of his time and irritated him... I went to Jersey Mike's up the street instead -they were very polite and easy to do business with -the sandwich was AMAZING and brought me back home...

UPDATE! October 1, 2021 Bend, Oregon Another year of New York Sub, the top quality of people serving an amazing sandwich! At a time when customer service tends to take a back seat, this amazing shop has remarkable people cooking and serving their customers, probably over 50 sandwiches later and I have yet to walk through the doors and not get a smile, and a cheerful hello from these amazing people, who call New York Sub their work site! Thank you to the guys & gals of New York Sub, it's just an absolute pleasure!

August 2020. Bend, Oregon Amazing place to grab a sandwich, either to go, or even better..... to sit down and enjoy! A damn good sandwich, each one of them is a great one, my favorite is the grilled Turkey, and the grilled Pastrami! Whew!!! Are they good! The food obviously makes this little gem special, but the staff takes it to a whole different level, be it female or male, always a smile and a kind spirit to go along with your lunch! Just ok. Not as good as the reviews claim from my perspective and here is why.

Pros:

Staff was friendly Bread is good Giant sandwiches are huge

Cons:

Very overpriced for a sandwich shop ($50 for 2 sandwiches, 2 chips, 2 cookies and 2 small drinks). Philly Cheesesteak was over cooked/dry, I asked and paid for double cheese but don’t think I got it to be honest and the cheese tasted odd (perhaps Swiss). I definitely wouldn’t order it again, especially if they are indeed using Swiss. Long wait to get food. We ordered as soon as we walked in and it took 15 mins to make 2 sandwiches with nobody else waiting. Place was a tad dirty considering nobody was there and the floors were very sticky like they hadn’t been mopped in a while.

In short, my meal didn’t meet my expectations and it’s unlikely I’ll come back which is sad because I’ve been looking for a good...
