I don’t visit Berkely often but whenever I do I always have to visit this spot. From what I’ve learned, the fountain is a part of the larger Marin Circle area and was originally constructed in 1911 by the city planners to create traffic circles in Berkely Hills. It was intended orginally as a central feature of an elegant, European-style boulevard. It is an amazing addition to the neighorhood, although myself I cannot tell what type of creature it is. My family and friends have joked calling it a monkey, elephant, a bear or some mutated animal.
