Took the kids for an impromptu homeschool field trip earlier today and had a great experience. Since it was a weekday, my four kids (ages 1 1/2 to 7) had a private tour. The kids all really enjoyed it, even the baby didn’t get bored. It was very interesting to see the old buildings and equipment including the cheese making equipment and cider press. The kids really enjoyed ringing the (original) school bell. Also, it’s very reasonably priced and kids under 7 are free. Would recommend for anyone interested in history, but for homeschool families in particular it makes a great weekday outing this...
Read moreFantastic place. The preservation of history and trying to show all the kids how life was before electronic devices was awesome. Even to see how they used to shuck corn and then use a grinder to make corn meal. The civil war camp with live demonstrations of rifle fire and cannon fire. The restored one room school house was great to see also. They also have an actual cider press from 1864 that is restored. Still with all the hand carved wooden gears and spirals. Only run it one day each year. Whole place a great representation of how it was. ...
Read moreThey have a very interesting and fun tour of their collection of early settlement homes from the area. The tour is a hands on experience that was fun for the kids and adults.They provided transportation to and from each building. And they also had accessibility ramps at most buildings.
Lastly they had a museum near the gift shop that told the story of the town (All items were donations from locals). This was also very interesting to see how the Swiss lineage shaped the culture...
