I gave 1 star because I was truly disappointed there is NOTHING except a slanting floor beneath you between 2 of the buildings to even indicate this is from 1700's. There are so many shops on the same street that are true to the period. This bookstore was the reason for along weekend trip to the area as I want to tour as many historical books stores in the USA as possible. I'm starting with this one and it was truly disappointing. I had the feeling I was in a Barnes and Noble. Someone else posted comments with a similar description. There are so many things they could have done to make this stay with the time period. Truly sad I wasn't able to see this building before the college purchased it as I have a feeling it would have been more to my expectations. I did read the reviews before deciding to go and thought I'd see for myself. But, everyone who wrote comments about the lack of historical feel or visibility isn't exaggerating. In my opinion, it's an injustice to the history of the building and business and the...
Read moreI was there last week, January 2024. I was looking gifts for children and was completely heartbroken that their children's book section has been virtually eliminated. There were shelves of Lego boxes where there used to be books. There were 2 women working in the store and neither of them spoke to me or asked if I needed anything, despite being in the same room as I was. They had a conversation among themselves about some inventory. I was so disappointed. No classics were on the shelves! No Good Night Moon, Pat the Bunny, Where the Wild Things Are!! My children grew up going to that bookshop and we still have many of the beautiful books that we purchased from there over the years. I hated to have to go to a big book store, but sadly, Moravian Bookshop is no longer an option for young children's books, and the service is non existent. I will add that the young woman at the front of the store greeted me and said good-bye and thanked me for coming...
Read moreIf I rate the book store as a first time customer I would give it 4 or 5 stars. If I rate it as a repeat customer that has been visiting the store for decades it would get 3 stars at best. Yes, it has a lot of products for Moravian University, that however does not make it a "Moravian" book store. I know things change and we need to keep up with current trends, it's a shame to see how much has been lost. There is so much Moravian related product and Moravian history that has been lost. Not that it was Moravian but the deli counter and cozy spaces to sit and enjoy a small meal or sandwich is sorely missed as is the candy counter with sooo many delicious chocolates to choose from. So for first time and newer customers it's an a nice store, a small version of all the other Barnes and Noble stores. For folks that knew the store in its previous form it's a far cry from what it was and what it...
