What is so fascinating about this place is that it recaptures and/replicates… The history of steel in America… And the power it brought to our economy… This is a story of immigrants… Of money… Of a desire… To create… And fulfill… The dreams of many who came to work… This is also a venue for those who love “industrial art“ and or “industrial architecture“… You could spend a good time here, looking at the silhouettes created by these cold steel structures that at one time burned as hot as 3000 Fahrenheit… An amazing place to visit for any and all ages any and all backgrounds. The trail that you follow is on a trestle… And along the way, there are stations where you can read and learn about the process of steel… The history of steel… And the people of steel!… I had a personal connection to this place… Because more than 80 years ago… I had relatives that migrated to Allentown/Bethlehem from Puerto Rico… To work in the steel mills… and I was so touched to see signage amplifying the Puerto Rican experience in this great chapter of our history… Anyone and everyone who visits this place leaves with a yearning, and a promise of what this great nation can do… And continues to do… Beyond politics… Beyond the red… And the blue… Is the heart of America… This is the place that can rekindle our hope… Imagination… purpose … A great...
Read moreGreat place to go for a concert. Fairly small compared to many other venues, so no seat is really bad. They have vip tents on the sides under cover with private restrooms. There is standing room in the back, which is nicely fenced off, so those people don't stand in the isles where seats are.it is pretty easy and fast to get in and out of the arena. There is a parki g garage, at least one near by. I saw Lynard Skynard there, and they weren't bad. Great guitar players, but lead singer wasn't great. They have great songs from the original band though. It was raining, so most seats are not under cover except vip. Also, expect to stand the whole time if you have seats in the main floor areas. I've been to 3 concerts here, and everyone stood the whole time for all of them. Quite annoying. I think this happens because most of the seats are in the middle and on the ground, with no elevation. There are small elevated stands around the back and sides. I didn't notice if those people were standing the whole time, but I'm trying those next time. If you want to be closer to the stage, go for the middle, but...
Read moreVery, very cool bit of history here.
My fiancée and I were in town for a martial arts related visit and wanted to see what was around, and this is the first spot that comes up as the place to see — and for good reason!
You’re able to walk up and around a good deal of this very large steel mill, full of infographics with tons of history about the place. It operated for over 100-something years and through it produced mass amounts of steel for both WW1(&2?) material, as well as structures like the Chrysler building and the Golden Gate bridge. The history also dives into the life of the workers, the immigrants that took up jobs here, people that died or were injured here, and the rise of Unions and the role they played in protecting cheap labor workers around the US.
Definitely a must visit if you’re in town, and they also seem to be the backdrop for the local entertainment venue (to which many big names are still coming through to play at). It is lit up with lights at night which also makes for a cool walk...
