Went here twice. First time was great because of the service, food, drinks, and atmosphere.
I gave 4 out of 5 stars because of the service the second time I've visited with my family at night which was on 10/14/17. Called ahead to make a reservation under my name for 4. We were seated right away upstairs when we came in. Got to a table, candle is out on the table so it was dark. We waited about 10 minutes until the waitress noticed we didn't have menus. She brought us menus then water right after. Another 10 minutes later she came back to take our order for drinks and dessert. I have no problem giving my ID but what was interesting was her asking if I'm traveling since I'm from NJ. I didn't think anything of it so I said no since I moved recently in Easton. She didn't say anything else and went to get the drinks for my family and I. No popcorn served to us (which this place gives for free) so I asked Yuwi (spelling?) Who was my last waitress from my last visit and right away she helped me out. Other waitress came back 20 minutes later and my parents and girlfriend received their drinks and I gave it the benefit of the doubt that my drink was being made too. Nope. She came back to ask if everything is okay and I asked her about my drink. She apologized and said she forgot to then say that she thought I didn't want my drink anymore. It was all a bit weird. Came back with my drink and took my sole order for dessert finally. Maybe she was having an off night or her mind was somewhere else. I gave her 19% tip because I understand if someone were to low ball in tip, it would be rude. I do hope that if she is new to working there that her service improves, otherwise she'll be a concern for the place and owner. My family and I will come back again, only because the other waitress Yuwi was nice to greet us goodbye and tell us...
Read moreAfter a long work day, I was very much in the mood for a mojito, and decided to check out this distillery. I came alone and sat at the bar. Shortly after, an Asian guy seated himself next to me. My bartender assumed, because I am Asian as well, that we were together. When I ordered an appetizer, he brought out two plates and two sets of utensils. Throughout the meal, this guy and I never exchanged a word, yet our bartender continued to assume we were together. When I asked for my check, his drink was on my tab. I was a bit annoyed about this, but can understand that it was a genuine misunderstanding on his behalf.
As for the food, the crab hush puppies were pretty tasty. The exterior was crispy and the filling was moist and flavorful. The remoulade that accompanied the hush puppies added tartness and provided a good balance of flavors. Unfortunately, the mojitos were not good at all. I asked for the coconut mojito and it left a very bad aftertaste, which reminded me of sour milk. Ironically, as I was thinking that, I saw another bartender pour some sort of dairy product into a half concocted drink, and overheard him asking himself "is this rotten?" The drink had started curdling and looked awful. He did end up throwing out the drink and the bottle of the dairy product. I know there's no dairy in a mojito so it couldn't have been that- but it was ironic that I witnessed that as I was thinking to myself about how my mojito tasted like sour milk. I asked my bartender if he could make me another mojito- this time, a cranberry version. He was very nice about it and accommodated my request. Unfortunately, the cranberry mojito gave the same kind of aftertaste, although it was a bit better than the coconut version. If I return, I will definitely try something other...
Read moreFirstly, I want to start off by saying that the atmosphere was very nice, the service was good, and the wine that I had was really good too. I specifically came here for their pork belly ramen dish, simply because there are not a lot of places to get this dish in the LV area. While I was not expecting it to be super authentic or as good as a dedicated ramen restaurant, I was still holding out hope that it would be decent because of the Social Still's overall rating on google. Unfortunately, it just wasn't.
Firstly for $20 you DO NOT got a lot of food.. places like terakawa in Philly charge like $12 for a bowl of ramen much bigger than what they serve here (please note that their ramen dish is under the "large plate" section of their menu). Secondly, the eggs were hard boiled (see photo 1) when ramen eggs are supposed to be soft boiled (see photo 2) and they also had a weird, old bay taste to them which did not go good with the ramen. Thirdly, the noodles seemed to be of a low quality. Also, this dish could lose the cilantro as that flavor combination just did NOT mesh.
However, I really liked the pork belly that was included with this meal, it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, which is a nice twist to the braised pork belly that you normally get with ramen. Honestly, if they lowered the price of this meal to around $12-15 , cooked the eggs correctly, and used a higher quality noodle, this ramen would be totally worth it. Unfortunately as it stands now, it is not. I'm sure the Social Still has many other good food items, however, if you're looking for ramen this is...
