As I sit here in D2 as a freshman three week into the semester, studying, of course, I can't help but admire what this dining hall at the heart of campus has to offer to all the students at Virginia Tech. The food, yes, it is good, comparatively speaking, and I have no complaints so far, which alone is impressive as I usually come here often for breakfast. There are some really delicious things you can get here. Now, have there been times where I've walked all the way to D2 to find they're closed, yes, and has that been a genuine disappointment for me on those multiple occasions, yes. But, the most admirable part of dining at D2, simply put, is the music, whatever this playlist is, it is just great and should I ever have a bad food experience here, well the music would more than certainly make up for it. There is truly something special about sitting here and hearing people break out into song, singing Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline among others, and before you know it everyone more or less is breaking out into song. All in all I come to D2 for the enjoyable atmosphere that the classic rock provides, not necessary for the food. Should the genre of music ever change I truly don't think D2 would be the same for me and thousands of other students that pass through...
Read moreIt was a pretty good place to dine in the summer until a horde of camps showed up. Just getting food and trying to eat became a big ordeal. They kept inviting multiple cohorts of different camps until it got so bad that people started standing all the way out of the building just to enter. I asked the manager if they'd be expanding dinner time (it's only couple of hours). She flatly told me 'No'. without any explanation or regret. So yeah, it does become a disgusting place packed with kids and adults fighting for food and space. The staff and food are still...
Read moreBest value dining hall on campus by far. For only $5, it’s all you can eat. The food quality isn’t necessarily the #1 on campus, but it’s still really good. There’s several different stations offering a range of food, including (but not limited to): Asian (rotates between Korean, Thai, Indian, and Viet), pizza & pasta, sliders & fries, a salad bar, dessert bar, and Soup of the Day. My favorite station is the yogurt parfait section where there’s a bunch of toppings to add to your parfait, like blueberries, peaches,...
