The Drillfield is a must-see if you’re on campus at Virginia Tech. It’s a huge, open green space surrounded by beautiful trees and historic architecture. Whether you’re taking a walk, relaxing under a tree, or just passing through, it’s a great spot to take in some fresh air and campus vibes. The area feels calm and inviting, perfect for a quick break from classes or work. I really enjoyed how open and well-kept it was — it’s definitely one of the highlights of the campus. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!

Drillfield is great. Virginia Tech using desire path technique is a great solution in this design issue. It’s an awesome place to set up your hammock or star gaze at night. My only issue is that concrete rather then bricks creates very deep puddles around the path, and that sometimes the lights might not work at night. Otherwise Drillfield is great

Oh how I remember the first time I set foot on the soft grass of the Drillfield. It was June. the air was crisp with a light and friendly breeze. Puffy clouds aimlessly wandered the sky. My long time friend and I wanted to play Frisbee here, for we had heard of the broad open grass expanse. The UVA lawn fails to even compare to the grandiose pasture which is the Drillfield at Virginia tech. As we played, the sun set below the dark outlines of the dwellings surrounding the field. Although the grass was now without light, as we threw the frisbee, the light would still grace the frisbee high in the air. A truly tranquil and pleasuring moment it was! This field is to Virginia tech like the great hanging gardens were to Babylon! Appreciate our Drillfield - far too few treasures are left in the...

Possibly the biggest reason people drop 8am classes. Walking across the tundra with the precipitation coming down sideways is no way to start your day.

You can walk on the grass, or, if you're a big sissy you can walk across little paved paths conveniently placed to only get you from a few points to a few other points.

I don't believe that any actual drill takes place on this field anymore, so it should probably be renamed UltimateFrisbeeField, QuidditchField,...
