I'm a 41-year old mom, and joined Trebel almost a year ago during a gradual and unpleasant slide into middle-age. I'd always lacked the discipline and knowledge to seriously pursue fitness on my own--and how many times can you do the same workout DVD? I'd never set foot in a gym (so intimidating!) and was busy doing the typical mom thing, where I was taking care of everyone else except myself. Finally, a good friend and colleague convinced me to give Trebel a try, and showed me by example that it's okay (and necessary) to make time to take care of yourself. The impact on my life has been profound, which has taken me by surprise. Trebel is a special sort of gym (and from all reports that I've heard, pretty unusual), because of the coaching and the community. The coaches are fantastic: they meet you where you are, take a lot of time teaching proper technique (injury avoidance is important to me), and help you modify each workout so that it's doable for you wherever you are, but just hard enough so that next time you can do a little bit more. It's also never boring--not at all like jumping on a treadmill by yourself. The community is really great too--it's so intimidating walking into a gym full of people who've been there forever, know each other, and all seem so much stronger than you'll ever be. But these folks are supportive rather than competitive, and everyone feels like a new friend. Mostly though, it's made the rest of my life so much easier! I can chase after kids without getting winded, lift heavy things safely, and maybe someday I'll be able to beat my husband at arm-wrestling (well....maybe not). Regardless, I've been able to stick with it longer than I would have expected--but now I love it, and would never quit. If you're considering giving it a try, do it. Usually it's the things you never get around to...
Read moreI have Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a rare degenerative neuromuscular disease that compromises my balance, strength, and joint stability, and has made one side of my body significantly weaker than the other. Jesse has taken the time to learn about CMT and he develops my routines with an understanding of how my body does (and doesn't) work, always seeking my input. I'm already seeing progress: 14 training hours ago I struggled to step up and down 30x on a 5" riser; today I did 100x on an 8" riser and could have done more. As one example. I could not do something, so Jesse broke it down and helped me build up to and beyond that goal. That's how it goes at Trebel.
The community is friendly and encouraging, too, and because most people come at the same time most days, it feels like a group of workout friends. It's not a place that feels competitive except in the best way, that it makes me want to push myself when I am there. I am almost certainly the weakest/least stable person there, and I feel safe, encouraged, and challenged enough-but-not-too-much so that I'm experiencing wins without injury. I've tried gym situations before and worked with another trainer before, but Trebel is many steps above my other experiences. I'm glad I kept looking until I found Jesse. I feel entirely positive about my ability to develop my strength and stability at Trebel, and I intend to keep going until I can beat Jesse in a...
Read moreThe coaches and community at Trebel have given me the push I needed to start getting back into shape. The atmosphere is encouraging and the workouts are challenging enough for those that regularly workout or just occasionally do anything challenging.
After having my second son and dealing with increasingly poor health (digestion issues, lack of general energy, shoulder injury, knee pain, back pain) I knew I had to do something or to choose to continue to go to work each day only to come home, eat, watch tv and sleep.
After a local hike to the cascades with son #1 on my back and being the guy who could not keep up I chose to look for what the change I needed might be. So there I was in bad health, not able to keep up and eating whatever I felt like.
Throughout my time at Trebel I found a community to train with. I looked forward to the sessions and usually had more energy when I finished a class than when I arrived. I took advantage of a nutrition goal setting class and changed my diet. The transformation has been even more than I hoped it would be. I lost around 30lbs, my energy is through the roof and I'm doing a lot more with my family and kids.
Still have a long way to go, but in short, it's turned my life around and set me on the path I've wanted for myself for...
