I had serious doubts that the reviews were honest because of the unusually high rating. I was WRONG! This guy runs the entire place, from taking orders to bussing tables to cooking the food. He is very pleasant but seems a bit shy. So, let's get into this review.
Here's the second most important thing to know. If you are concerned about the ambiance and decorations, STAY HOME!!! In that category, I would be hard pressed to give 1 star. However, I came for the food, not the ambiance.
You already know my comments will be good about the food but I must first comment on the beverages...canned sodas from the fridge. I would normally take off at least 2 stars for this gross oversight. PUT IN SODA FOUNTAINS ASAP!!! I needed a refill but wasn't about to drop another couple dollars on a 12oz can. If it wasn't for the food, I wouldn't likely revisit this place.
Okay, you've waited long enough. Let's talk about the food. My wife ordered the egg plant parmigiana and I ordered fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. My wife loved the egg plant and I loved the fettuccine. It was more food than a generously heavy set man could comfortably eat. The online pics don't do it justice. This was the best fettuccine I've ever had. The cheese sauce was so rich and creamy. The marinara sauce on my wife's eggplant was very flavorable. Also, the slice of eggplant was nice and thick. Neither of us could finish our plates and we really didn't want to stop either. I left, full, happy, but conflicted that I didn't ask for a go box for the small amount I left. My wife was the same.
This was hands-down one of the best meals I've had. I would normally remove a star or two as I previously described but the guilt would be too much to bear. So, 1) don't go there for the ambiance, 2) bring a two liter bottle of soda, and 3) sit down to enjoy food like you may have never experienced.
I don't get to Blacksburg often but I will eat here when I return. I honestly don't know why this place isn't packed from open to close. If this guy keeps this up, I may not be able to get a seat on my next visit. My pictures don't...
Read morePlacing my order was very easy, and I was well informed of the pick up time, which was accurate. Having said that, the food quality was a little lacking. The menu items were not explained very well so the chicken Florentine which traditionally contains spinach and a Mornay sauce (béchamel sauce with grated cheese). However, their description was grilled chicken and spinach in a tangy cream sauce, so I'm expecting a white cream sauce with a tangy garlicky cheese flavor. That was not what I received... It had a watery, thin, reddish-orange sauce that was almost vinegary and tasted more like a slightly spicy, very thin, tomato concoction. There was also tomatoes in the dish which I wouldn't mind normally but they had quite the vinegary tang to them as well. The chicken was seasoned with Mediterranean seasonings, which I understand it is also a Mediterranean restaurant, but if they are going to serve a traditional Italian dish, they should either prepare it as it is traditionally prepared or at least tell you, on the menu, exactly what it is rather than being so vague that the customer is surprised by the end result, especially when it's the customers favorite dish. Anyway the other problem i had was that the calamari was chewy and hard, not too mention, it tasted like Indian curry seasonings were on it and did not mix well at all flavor-wise. They should stick to Mediterranean instead of trying to offer an Italian menu, it does not work in their favor in my opinion. My boyfriend's chicken Alfredo was ok but still had those non-italian spices which made it taste very different than traditional Alfredo. The only thing I actually liked was the fried pickles but the ranch was definitely from a cheap brand, even that was vinegary lol. Anyway, menufy itself was great butt next time I'll order from a...
Read moreThis is one of the first restaurant, or maybe even THE FIRST restaurant I would say I wouldn’t eat at again. When I first came in the looks of it weren’t great. No service and we had to go up to the counter, look at the menus scrambled about, and not to mention we didn’t even order at the table. (We had to order at the counter). And all the drinks were in a fridge and were canned. We were the only ones in the restaurant and I think the only ones that had been there all day, considering they hadn’t cooked anything yet. They had to get everything set up and wait for the food was about 45 minutes. When I finally got the food it didn’t look great, I got a cheeseburger and honestly it reminded me of school lunch. It was not juicy and had a fake-ish taste to it, if that’s a way to put it. We had no check ups to see if “everything was okay”, or if we needed anything. Once the guy came out (not even to our table) and shouted out across the restaurant to ask if the food was fine. (This was around the time my table was finishing up). I see so many good reviews about this place and wonder what happened with my experience to make me not be able to write a review like that. Come if you want but I would rather go ANYWHERE else and not waste my money on...
