Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals says they "will prepare the hot tub for your arrival". This is their idea of a "prepared hot tub".
It's half-empty, filthy, and had a half-melted half inch thick layer of ice floating on the surface of the water registering 34 F.
The office at Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals said they would send maintenance to fix it and they would arrive in 20 minutes. They said it would be hot in two hours. I explained that there is no way the hot tub would go from 34 F to 103 F in two hours.
I insisted I not be charged for the first night of my stay since the bulk of it would be trying to get the hot tub working with their maintenance man at the cabin - hardly the Valentine's Day Weekend getaway I had planned for weeks for my gift to my fiance.
They said that I could leave now and get a refund or if I stayed the first night I would be billed the entire amount.
An hour and a half and several calls to the office later no one had arrived. The office kept saying they would be there in 20 minutes - for an hour and a half they said this. Finally I called and said we were done and leaving and wanted our money back.
At this point it was dark and we had already been driving all day. We were lucky enough to find a hotel room in Blue Ridge but the only room we found was a king suite.
Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals does not care at all about their customers. I have been a loyal customer for years, this was to be my third stay at this cabin, "His Place".
I planned this for months. I took a vacation day from work (not an unlimited commodity). I spent a lot of money on food and drinks for the weekend. I hired and paid for a pet sitter. I spent hours driving in traffic to get there and hours packing and unpacking.
Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals screwed up. They should have checked the hot tub before my stay; they failed to uphold their end of the contract. They should have comped the first night since this was CLEARLY their fault. Had they bothered to check the hot tub they could (and should) have told me that there was a problem and I would have cancelled my trip and saved a lot of money, my time, and my vacation day.
If you value your time and money do not waste either with Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals. I had no bad experiences so when I started seeing bad reviews for the company I shrugged them off - BIG MISTAKE. Maybe you won't have a problem, but if you do have a problem you can be sure Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals will not treat you right.

Read moreWe stayed with Mountain Laurel Cabins after a referral from a friend. We were pleasantly surprised to find the cabin looked exactly as the pictures on the website. While they told us we could get up to this location in a regular vehicle, that much was true, however the drive was very steep and one lane, and I would imagine it very harrowing for someone who hasn't driven up a mountain before. Especially in the freezing rain as it was for us. Our cabin was very clean and the views were magnificent! The amenities such as a hot tub, gas grill, outdoor fire pit and 2 indoor fireplaces, as well as a fully stocked kitchen (pot/pans/dishes/utensils, not food), was all that we could ask for, especially for the exceedingly reasonable price!! We had trouble lighting one of the fireplaces, however they had someone else to fix it right away. We had to hunt around for instructions on how to use the hot tub, turn on the fireplace, and work the TV, but we found them. If you are electronically challenged the TV system might cause an issue. That could have been made a lot easier With a regular satellite package or cable system. If you are not well versed in streaming TV, this might be an issue for you. Normally, with a view like this, we would not need TV, however it was raining non-stop for 2 days of our visit, curtailing some planned outdoor activities, so it became necessary. All of these minor issues did not detract from our COMPLETE satisfaction with this stay. Honestly, if there was one thing that I was unhappy about, it was the smell from the very strong Glade Plug-In, permeating the entire cabin, upstairs and down. I get scent-triggered migraines, and it took a full day of open doors to clear out the smell, after we unplugged them. I can't imagine I would be the only one adverse to such a strong smell. If you're going to use a scent, perhaps go with something a little less cloying. A vanilla perhaps, or just some Febreeze, that will dissipate quickly? I would recommend these cabins to anyone looking for a great vacation. We cannot wait...
Read moreTerrible experience! Booked through “Home Away”. First time using this service. Home Away is just the middle man. I never saw the cabin I booked on the Mountain Laurel site, only on the Home Away site.
We arrived for check in 4:00 pm, got key and was told the bottom of drive was a little rutted but to just go up fast. Got to cabin, impossible to get up drive. There was about 3-4 inches of loose gravel, could not get traction. This was a long steep drive. We had an all wheel drive vehicle and even tried in “snow mode”. The loose gravel made it impossible.
We went back to office and was told there was nowhere else for us to stay and that other people had made it up the drive. Also said we could park at the bottom and walk up. (4) senior citizens with back and knee problems along with a service dog and luggage. They refused to refund our money and offered zero assistance. Told us we had to go through Home Away which is not true. They are responsible because they are the agents. Here we were on Thursday before Memorial Day with no where to stay with pets.
Absolutely no help from Mountain Laurel!!! Don’t use this agency. Luckily we found a small hotel that was pet friendly (Ducktown Inn) very nice accommodating hotel and a lifesaver for us. Not exactly the relaxing weekend we had planned.
We went back the next day to talk to the staff again and was told that the ad says 4x4 required on “Their” site which it did in the House description but at the bottom it also only says recommended.
We never saw their site, only saw it on the “Home Away” site. I tried and tried to find the cabin we rented on Home Away again but could not find it. I searched in every month even into 2020 and could not find it. I thought that was strange. Perhaps pulled.... can’t say for sure. The cabin was called “Serenity Now.
Mountain Laurel would not give us anyone to contact only email address for some committee that meets every week or so. No contact person or...
