We've been through numerous caves, and although this one does not have the massive stalactites and stalagmites (which they explain about during the tour), it was a very interesting cave and I loved hearing about all of the history surrounding the cave and the area. Our guide, Jayden, was both personable and knew what he was talking about. I wish I had known ahead of time about all of the trails in the area as well because I would have planned to have more time before or after our tour to explore the area some more. I am very glad that we decided to do this.
The walk down to the cave was intermixed with things to see and stories to hear, so it wasn't too fast for anyone in the group and our overall group ranged from somewhere 6 months to somewhere upward of 60. You walked back on your own and at your own pace for the uphill part, and it really wasn't bad. There is a gravel parking lot at the very back of the property that will knock about 10 minutes off of the return walk if you are worried about the total distance. One woman had her son go and get their car for her. Nice short distance, so very easy to drop one person at the front desk to check-in, then drive those worried about the walk to the back of the parking lot and park there.
The only warning I would have for people with balance or knee type problems is that the two steps down into the boat can be a bit hard to manage since there isn't anywhere really good to hold onto. The guide was holding the boat steady, so he wasn't able to help much. Even though I was headed to the left side of the boat to be seated, I walked in on the right side and used the rail on shore to hold onto, then moved...
Read moreMy wife and I did the underground boat tour of the underground cave, and afterwards, a two-hour walkabout of the beautiful grounds here on the morning of Saturday, August 3, 2024 while we were on a month-long camping trip through southern Kentucky. We camped at the nearby KOA Holiday in south Bowling Green, and I booked and paid for the tour online in advance before our arrival, as the Google reviews indicated that the boat tours often sold out on the weekends. I'm glad I did, because our tour, and the two of the other groups just behind us were also sell outs. Our tour group had about 25 people in it (roughly the capacity of the flat bottom cave boats) and we had a very knowledgeable and professional tour guide who had just recently graduated from Western Kentucky University (WKU) in Bowling Green with a general earth sciences degree. He was an EXCELLENT guide and we learned quite a lot during the 45 minute tour. Afterwards, we walked several of the nature trails in the surround park, to include passing through the butterfly aviary (house). It's a VERY NICELY MAINTAINED park that is owned and operated by a non-profit group, so the ticket prices were very reasonable (25.00 per adult). If you are spending a night or two in Bowling Green, you want to see some very neat underground geology, and you don't have the time nor desire to drive 30 miles to Mammoth Cave National Park, where you'll and pay some very steep ticket prices for their mass-gaggle sized tours, then this place is a great and much thriftier...
Read moreWe had a great time at Lost River Cave and definitely give it 5 stars! The price was very reasonable — just $24.99 for an adult ticket — and well worth it for the experience.
The tour starts with a 15–20 minute walk to the cave entrance, guided by someone who shared interesting local history and fun facts along the way. Then we boarded a boat and went into the cave itself, which was such a cool and unique experience! The guide continued sharing stories and history during the ride, making it both fun and educational.
After the cave tour, we explored the trails, visited the butterfly garden, and saw three of the natural blue holes on the property — all beautiful and peaceful spots. We ended our visit at the gift shop, which had a great selection and surprisingly reasonable prices.
This was such a fun and different stop — perfect for all ages. Highly recommend if you’re in the Bowling Green area!
Thankfully, we had purchased our tickets in advance. There was a man at the counter asking for same day, walk-up tickets and they were out, so I do highly recommend purchasing your tickets before arriving and arriving at least 30 minutes before so that you can check in and walk down to the area for the...
