It's old, I get it. It gets 5 stars because I haven't yet been kicked out for bringing in friends/kids that spill drinks/snacks/popcorn. The running joke has been to stay out of Theater 1 and 3! Theater 1 is where drinks get spilled and they NEVER know where the mop is. I've offered multiple movies (yes, MORE THAN 3 MOVIES in theater 1)- I've offered to clean our messes but they usually say they don't have any idea where the mop is (NO Joke). Theater 3 is usually where the popcorn gets spilled, I am not sure why it's only those two specific theaters (no matter where in the theater we sit). Last time the popcorn was premptied before the movie started, but we had a good laugh. We try not to be mess makers, we are sorry, it is part of why we haven't been there in a while (Keene has suffered). We like theater 1, personally it will always hold the memories of movies I've seen with people I enjoy. Saving Private Ryan was where a friend almost vomited in my lap (realistic war will do that to someone not shell shocked from life). Theater 1 was also where my cousin and I saw Pans Labyrinth, God Rest Her Soul, I miss Her the way Ophelia misses her past life, but I digress . . . We waited so long for Peanutbutter Falcon to come out (hate me for enjoying a movie with Shia Lebeouf acting in it). Zach did a GREAT Job in that movie. I think EVERYONE should watch it for the Character and Content, not for the person feelings if an actor's personal life; remember Rule #1 . . . Again, I digress, but I might be showing my age a bit too. Go see Theater 1, enjoy it for the ceiling and ambience, there's so much to enjoy looking at. Fyi, I have NEVER seen the balcony open for seating, but if it ever was, I'd definitely want to be there! You won't see me there anytime soon, but please go, see a movie in Theater 1-the zodiac theater, (tell Kristen "Hi" when You walk in), and don't worry about the history of the place, it's all good Souls and You're...
Read moreIt has potential, but its lacking,
Yes its a "attractive" theater with friendly staff, however their movie showing times are bizarre.
While I understand it is a small theater with four or so screens, they only have showing times for movies after 4pm for most of their movies and the showings are only two or three times with the weekend time starting at 1pm or later with only one or two movies...
The reason why I say it's bizarre is because the upcoming winter festival they are showing movies at 11am, that's reasonable. So it's not impossible for them to make changes to their schedule.
If you are a late night worker, that relies on the local bus that stops at around 4 to 5pm then you are not getting to see a movie.
If you can make the times, the theater only have two or so showings that you have to squeeze into.
I feel this theater can at the least have a earlier weekend schedule even if it is 2 to 4 showings, especially on Saturday and Sunday that maybe start around 9 or 10 am.
The only other choice for residents or guests is to wait for streaming services or go miles out of town for a more reasonable schedule.
It's a shame but it is also their business and they can set the times they wish. It also seems like a hobby or personal pastime for the people over it, not a serious business. A apart of the unfortunate decline of the once vibrant, on life support, Brattleboro. If it is a serious business, I personally feel they are shooting themselves in the foot, especially with a lack of earlier weekend hours. I hope they can consider...
Read moreI'm so glad to I found this gem of a movie theater with affordable prices top-notch films in a beautiful art deco theater. Particularly with the pandemic right now it's almost impossible to find a small family-run theater which is so exquisite. Going to the art deco theater is as much of a joy as watching the movie particularly because I've regularly attended and volunteered and worked it at another Art Deco theater in northern California. I also appreciated the friendly nature of the staff there as at one point my phone died and the staff person at the time allowed me to use the phone there as well as charge my own phone so I can make a call for my ride. Be mindful of the fact though that at this theater there are no previews not even a few minutes worth so when I got there thinking there were previews I actually missed 10 minutes of the film but again the staff was impeccable and they offered to show me the first 10 minutes that I missed because it was the last screening of the day and the other films were not going to get out...
