This place was pretty average. It started off a bit rocky with the service. The waitress was very friendly and was trying, but she needs some basic lessons in order to do her job a bit better. You don't sit a table and then go off to take another table's orders before you bring over menus to the table you just sat. Again, she tried, but little things like that happened all night.
The food was about the same. A few things were really good (the bread, butter, salad), but others were just acceptable (my main dish, chickpea fries). I did really like my salad, but it also would have been difficult to get wrong. The main dish is what really bothered me. I ordered parmesan polenta with a short rib something. If the meat was short rib, I didn't recognize it. I have never had short rib cooked this way, and there is a reason. It was tough, and chewy, when it should have fallen apart. The polenta also showed a lack of ability/experience - it was dry and congealed into a blob of jelly.
Overall, I was obviously underwhelmed. I will say that the prices were pretty decent considering what they were going for, but they ended up being high based on the...
Read moreBlue Moose stands out as a disappointing place to go out for a meal. The service, food, and atmosphere were all unsatisfactory. Part way through dinner we heard the older waiter yelling at the younger waiter. This was heard throughout the small restaurant and made us feel uncomfortable. The service was exceptionally slow. Outside of eating we spent over an hour just waiting. The waiter was slow to bring out the menu, and when he arrived he came with just a drinks menu. When he returned to take our drink orders he didn't bring the food menu. He still didn't bring a food menu when he brought our drinks. The amount of time between taking our orders, bringing bread, bringing our salad, and bringing our meals was amazingly slow. When the food finally came my carbonara was lukewarm, and it wasn't that tasty either. I prefer my carbonara to have more than 3 measly morsels of bacon and to have a noticeable amount of cream. Eventually I had to walk up to the counter with my card because the waiter didn't come back to check on us after we finished eating. Will not be back. The pesto pasta and salad were...
Read moreTravellers, this restaurant is a gem in the heart of downtown Brattleboro. Everything we had was delicious and expertly prepared. The chef uses fine ingredients and it shines through in his Italian food. The cacio y pepe was excellent and used fine pecorino romano. The spaghetti and meatballs were delicious too. We recommend you try the pesto and the steak piziaolo, which were both delicious in a serious way. The sides, which are often neglected in some restaurants, shine bright at blue buffalo. And the Italian fries are delightful, a scene stealer. The mozzarella sticks were delicious and the calamari was tasty and crispy but still tender. The Caesar salad was also wonderful, good cheese and real anchovies! Dessert was also wonderful, the kids loved the fudgie brownie came with a marvelous vanilla ice cream. For me the the homemade carrot cake was the perfect way to end the meal. This was a wonderful Italian restaurant that had a great selection the ability to execute it all well. Check it out. We...
