This area of the park is a very serene and beautifully cared for Space out of respect of the late President Theodore Roosevelt. Walking paths And trees Circle this absolutely beautiful wide open space. There is also a wonderful beach and also a fantastic sports complex next to this area. YOU have to park near here and then walk to the Memorial location it is a very beautiful place to fish or sit on one of the many comfortably benches next to the flag area .There is is a small area that has boulders and rocks and other items that are taken from places where Theodore Roosevelt loved that defined his life it is in a wooded area near the back of the park this area is best known for being a wonderful walking area and I highly recommend having a visit here by beautiful Oyster Bay Harbor. They have finally constructed the final design for every aspect in and around this park which has been a long time in the making it is absolutely wonderful on a sunny afternoon or a cloudy one unfortunately the fishing is not what it used to be in the harbor because of the Oyster productivity but you can still catch a fish with no problem. The water quality is very good and always monitored. In season on weekends a TOWN Sticker is required to enter Park AND to park every day. You will...
Read moreI visited the park when it was blanketed in snow — so my experience is seen through the lens of a wintery afternoon in mid-December. To get there, I took the LIRR Oyster Bay line to its terminus (from Jamaica). The train ride is about an hour or so. It's an easy walk to the park from the station. I was impressed that one entrance to the park allows you to cross the train tracks. Be careful. Look both ways. There could be a train coming. The bathrooms in the park were closed for the winter. I ate lunch in one of the covered plazas that dot the park. Make sure you check out the bay. I hummed the Cole Porter lyric, “Even oysters in Oyster Bay do it. Let’s do it. Let’s fall in love.” From the beach, you can see the palatial houses built on Centre Island, and if you squint, you can see Cove Neck — which is the location of Sagamore Hill, famous as Theodore Roosevelt’s “Gilded Age” vacation residence (and where he died). When Roosevelt was police commissioner of New York, and when he was president, he took the Oyster Bay train. Check out the original station. It’s an excellent example of old-timey railroad architecture (and it’s located just east of the...
