Centrally located in downtown Brownsville (Mitte Plaza) the museum provides permanent collections and visiting artist exhibits. There is a restaurant within and a gift shop. On Weekdays-talented, local artists can be seen in action. If your going to the Gladys Porter zoo- it is across the street! Note: The museum is located in an area which will soon facilitate a new building for the city farmer’s market (See photos of the ribbon cutting On March 20,2022).

It's a small town museum and reflects that spirit. It is primarily 4 galleries and on the day we visited hosted a main exhibition by a national artist held in 2 galleries and in the ancillary wings, there was a group exhibition of local talents and a solo by a regional artist. Honestly wasn't expecting the Menil but assumed that the lights would of been turned on to view the paintings. Overall a cute and raw fine arts haven.

An beautiful museum that enriches Brownsville by fostering culture, new ideas, and a deep sense of community. It provides educational opportunities for all ages, making it a true community hub. The on-site restaurant serves delicious food, and the gift shop offers unique finds. My experience here was fantastic both as a visitor and as an exhibiting artist. I’m looking forward to returning!

I’ve come to visit this museum two times now on different occasions and both times it stated on the website and online that it would be open for visitors, this however was not the case. We came spring of 2023 and spring of 2024 and the same situation happened to us, they told us on both occasions “sorry we’re closed due to an exhibition installation”. The lack of clarity online is what is most frustrating aside from the fact that we’re visiting from 18 hours away. It’s disappointing to see that we couldn’t even check out any sort of art piece while visiting and were asked to leave. Until the hours posted online are accurately portrayed, we will not be returning to this Art Museum. Please reflect accurate hours of operation, which should include when the museum will be closed to due...

This building is just beautiful inside and out. It is very evident that it is well cared for. The price per person to enter is not bad at all. Only complaint would be I would consider this to be more of an art exhibition than a museum. As it features local artists and changes the items frequently. It is also very small inside as only had two rooms with art besides the grand hall when you enter. There was not much art on display to view either. I would say it took under 30 mins even taking photos to see everything on display. If you are in the area it is worth checking out but keep in mind what you are getting. Perfect to hit before or...

Despite the price tag, this museum is TINY. Only 2 galleries. One had a boring pile of average memorabilia like brochures and boxes. The other had nothing but advertising. Yet they charged for this. Look, I don't expect ANYTHING for free... but two galleries. Plus both were full of chairs, making it hard to move around. The best artifact is the replica Egyptian statue outside. Add in terrible parking and it's a disaster. I only added a second star because they occasionally host art by local high school students so they are active in...
