Buena Vista you are doing your city no favors. I have tried to find what there "is to do" in Buena Vista (and your neighboring cities), so hot springs - yes, Browns Canyon - yes, off roading and trails, rivers and everthing OUTSIDE of yourtown. We walked down town, not all that interesting - sorry, but then we decided to go to your White Water Park - that way we could have a nice walk along a river.
We walked a ways and saw a guy trying to keep a tiny kiyak in the "white water", over and over again. Fun, but he was right by the rent a kiyak place. So on down the path and there are groups of people with what look like paddle boards, in wet suits, life jackets and hard hats. We stop to wacth to find them surfing the white water. We watched for almost 30 minutes, chatted up the guy who claimed to be 65 and while the young kids took turns at surfing. Then he took his one turn to their 10 or so and boy, great show - his one ride was more time than the others spent on all their rides combined.
Why is this new sport not written up in the BV Guide, I couldn't event find it on the website that google said was the page for the White Water Park - - now the Surf Hotel makes so much more sense.

Trails parallel the river on both sides and make for great hiking year round. Restaurants and shopping are right across the park. Just down the street from the skate park, bmx course and sports fields. Never a dull moment in this neck of the woods.

The trails are easy, clean, and have pretty views of the river and the Mosquito Ridge mountains beyond. Very pretty, historic town. I bet the river is really rushing in the spring but it was nice to know we could still do a short hike in the winter! Lots of people out with the same idea too, but the trails weren't overcrowded at all....
