I love this place. The highest quality productions. Maria and Tom take chances and tackle plays covering controversial subjects. Often, with humor. Always with class. The acting is superb. A comfortable theater. Easy to get to. Lots of street parking.
Last night, we saw Elijah (You've got to go see it). The LA Times certainly liked it - it's a Critic's Choice! Several characters are stuck in a TGIFriday's during a hurricane. They cannot leave due to floods on all roads. The only reason the restaurant is open is because the manager just stopped by to check on it - and found a lot of people outside trying to shelter from the storm. So she, her niece and an invisible cook (normally a dishwasher) try to accommodate everyone for the night. Very emotional topics are argued, tempers flare, opinions and attitudes will reflect those of various audience members. No matter what position you take on these issues, they are represented in the cast. We were totally absorbed in the story and the acting. The people were so very real. Despite the topics and the tension, Judith Leora found a way to inject humor and pathos. I don't want to give you details - they would be spoilers. Go see it yourself.
