It's hard to give this a rating according to Stars. Harvard Square has many shops like convenience stores, bookstores, places to eat inside and outside, artwork throughout the square and is always bustling with a mixture of people of a wide range. Various cultures and all ages, genders. Some types of people your bound to see each visit are listed but isn't exhaustive: Street performers, gay and lesbian, gothic, hip hop. Businessmen, homeless people, families, tourists, students. Etc I'd say, more than almost any place in Boston area/ Cambridge, Harvard is the most eccentric and mixed in multiple mixes. There are busses leading multiple routes and the red line is directly in Harvard square. It's a lively and intriguing place to people watch. There are plenty of comfortable benches or grass areas that you can find and sit at on a nice day. It's not uncommon to see street performers freestyling or playing an instrument. It also seems like the guy that paints on canvases is always around best place to go if you just want to be visually amused or pop in and out of places or fly on the wall and just people watch. Additionally there's a little mall, a CVS and so much more more than likely you will have to pay for meter parking unless it's after 8:00 p.m. or on a sunday. There are also plenty of garages to park in that probably cost a few dollars an hour. Usually on street parking with meters but on a busy weekend night it may be tough to get a place directly in the square. Your options are walk a little if you can't find a closer spot, take public transportation, park...
Read moreI decided to visit my old stomping grounds recently, I was mortified by the way traffic was being handledon a busy and HOT weekend in the summer. I am certain cost the local economy a sizable amount of potential revenue frok anybsiurefe. traffic was crippled and forced across the bridge and back to accommodate the influx of vehicles that were not able to park almost anywhere in the vicinity. Harvard University shuts down and barricades all side streets and a portion of memorial drive on Saturday and Sunday making it impossible to navigate or park anywhere in the area. I sat it my car for over an hour sweating bullets in 95 degrees weather driving around the area and still didn't get a spot within reasonable distance to walk to the square. I left after this very disappointed, dehydrated and angry. There is no need for these closures and it must be costing the local economy business and tourism income because of it. the streets that were blocked off were not at all even close to being fully parked or occupied by anyone, resident student, or pedestrian. Every street idroge by was mocking me with it's open and unused space for parking that I was not able to use. and i know for certain I was not alone in the frustration this caused and also not the only potential consumer to have abandoned the idea of visiting the square any time soon as we move into the school year after...
