My qualms with Hotel Veritas stem from the fact that the room I was assigned was either incorrectly represented on the booking site (the onus is on the hotel to remedy this) or was simply not the correct room (I raised this concern to staff, but to no avail). As consumers, we are oftentimes expected to roll over and just be grateful for whatever the "Daddy" Warbucks-es of the world deign to give us; I'm just here to point out the differences between what I was ensured of as a patron of this business and what I actually got.
I'll start with the good stuff, because Hotel Veritas does have some nice perks. Its location is pretty fantastic with public transit links and easy-going, reasonably-priced valet service available for those who want it. There is a nespresso machine, drawers of water, juice, and soda, and (in the morning at least) tortas free for the taking right by the front desk. The communal areas are thoughtfully put together and welcoming.
Now, the bad. I booked what was advertised as a 172-sq.ft. "Queen Room" with a standard, queen-sized bed, down duvet, and Egyptian cotton linens, and all your modern amenities (ie. heating, ipod dock, flat-screen tv); this sounds pretty good, right? Yeah! The problem is that as soon as we walked into the room, we knew that //most// of what we'd paid for, we weren't getting. We could see that the bed in the room wasn't a queen; so, I let the front desk know—to which I was told that it absolutely was a queen, but a PETITE queen. Many people misuse the word "literally," but I literally had to bite my tongue in that moment so as to avoid laughing in the face of this poor soul who was probably just trying to do their job. But, really:
PETITE. QUEEN.
Okay, so I didn't get the bed that was advertised; what else? Well, the 172-sq.ft. room also turned out to be 20 ft. smaller than listed, the heating was dismal and hotel staff seemed to think that a space heater (which was not in the best condition) placed within two feet of the bed was both a safe and effective alternative, there were bodily fluids on the poly-fill duvet (ducks and geese, as you know, are full of down but completely devoid of this material...), cotton-poly blend sheets on the not-queen-sized bed, no ipod dock, and the building's one elevator had a state inspection certificate that was already six months into being expired.
In all, Hotel Veritas could certainly do more to live up to its name. There needs to be more truthfulness in their room descriptions—had I known I was getting a 150-sq.ft. room with a bed somewhere between a full and queen, cotton-poly sheets, a poly-fill duvet, and minimal heat/questionable cleanliness, I would've either looked into booking a different room or sought out accommodation elsewhere.

Read moreI booked this hotel due to the location being close in proximity to Harvard Square. However, the rooms and service was certainly not worth the price that was paid for it. In the room, the interior was already old and extremely small to move in, with parts of the window broken (causing terrible noise cancellation and hence you could hear most things happening in the street) and the table also partially broken. The staff were helpful and friendly until the time it really mattered.
During my stay, on the 27th of June, a really loud noise woke me up in the middle of the night. When calling downstairs to complain about the noise (and the next day inquiring about it), I received different answers, one that construction was happening and one that something in the building next door blew up so they needed to use a generator (I eventually learned it was the latter, as shown in the image attached). I kept hearing the loud noise day and night for the remainder of my stay before I decided to move out (even a week after I moved out I believe it was still there, loud as ever), as it was interfering with my sleep because of how loud it was. When I asked to move rooms to one not directly overlooking the source of the loud noise, the person at the front desk just said they couldn't do anything about it but at least offered me a 15% discount for my stay, which I appreciated (and the only reason I am not giving this a one star). However, when my friend who was also staying there asked (serviced by someone else) to move rooms or for a discount, they only said that it was the problem of the next door neighbour and they were not responsible. So ALL the guests had to listen to that while they ignored that being their responsibility.
If the hotel room was better maintained or if they actually showed concern for their guests I might understand but given how little they cared how the noise was affecting their guests, I would highly recommend not staying here. To the staff at Hotel Veritas, please do show more concern towards your guests. This is at most a two star hotel, not a four star as it says, for everyone in the future's reference who wants to stay here; definitely not worth the price. I would suggest looking at more hotels of value nearby such as the Marriott or Hyatt properties; which may be further but provide better bang for the buck (I ended up staying at a...
