We took an Eco tour with Camden Harbor Cruises yesterday. It was 2 hours out and back. It's a smaller boat so everyone has a good seat and no problem hearing all the information about lobstering and different sealife. The crew was funny and knowledgeable and got people involved in the presentation. Everyone had the opportunity to touch/hold lobsters and crabs. They pulled up one of their lobster traps, examined the contents, rebaited the trap and threw it back in. They took us out a few miles to the small rock islands where the seals sunbathe and had the opportunity to learn about the different types of seals and take plenty of pictures. We also saw Osprey and a few other types of sea birds. There are shady and sunny spots on the boat and you can definitely bring children of any age. You might want to bring sunblock or a hat, drinks, snacks, sunglasses and a camera. The pictures I uploaded were just taken with my cellphone but the telephoto lens on my big camera got better, closer pictures. Binoculars are cool for these types of tours so you can see more detail. You check in for the tour under a blue umbrella on the public pier right along the water, about middle of the walkway. They have a sign if you walk the walkway right next to the water. Everyone was super nice and friendly. They do accept tips at the end...
Read moreWe booked the morning lobster trap trip. We brought 5 of our children, Hoping for a fun and educational activity. It was exactly that. Our captain and his second were informative and friendly and very supportive of bringing children on board. Collin pulled in 2 lobster traps and taught us about lobster life cycles, Maine lobster trapping guidelines, and trapping methods. We got to hold lobsters and crabs, and help bait one of the lobster traps being returned to the water. On our tour, we also got to see osprey nests, bald eagles, and a light house. The boat had a live tank so we could watch snails, mussles, lobster, and crab go about their business. The boat also serves water, soda, juice, and beer or wine for a small price if you ask. At the end of the tour you can buy t shirts and hats to further support this local company. We would take another trip with...
Read moreThe Lobster & Lighthouse cruise was the best way to introduce my daughter to Maine. Cassie was the best crew - informative, engaging, and very willing to give my daughter (and other guests) a hands-on experience. My daughter hasn't stopped talking about lobsters.
Heads up to future guests doing vacation research: they take the departure time seriously. A group missed our boat because we left the dock at exactly 3:15 PM. There are warnings on the website, the confirmation email, and the reminder email I got the day before our cruise - so absolutely no blame on Camden Harbor Cruises. But this is 100% something where you should figure out parking and walking time...
