We tried to go here today, but the beach itself and the surrounding area was entirely closed for construction. However, we went further back up the island towards Sanibel and found a place where we could access the beach (we parked in a random parking lot), which is why I still have this 5 stars. We found some great shells, there was a beautiful sunset, and plenty of space to walk. My only recommendation is to wear shoes/sandals as there are shells everywhere and the sand is a bit rougher. Also be aware that we did see some jellyfish (couldn't tell if they were alive or not), and to pay closer attention to the water when in it. Great place though!!

Its OKAY. Maybe because i live in Florida, maybe because people have hyped this beach up since i moved here: it fell short for me. The water is a pretty color if you're wearing polarized sunglasses. Other than that it's super murky and you can't see anything. Which makes the seaweed bottom icky to put your feet in. The sand is gravely and gives you a fast full skin peel for your toes in short order. As far as the "world best shelling"....meh. you can find shells like this at any other florida beach. And NICER beaches where you can actually see what's in the water. Definitely not top 5 worthy for me. MAYBE top ten.....MAYBE.

We absolutely loved our time at Captiva. Plenty of beach and activity for ourselves and our two young boys. What fun we had here combing the beaches, visiting locations in the area of family interest, dining out, sun bathing, and just relaxing in a place that has a cool and isolated vibe. The way we like it. Our company paid for us to travel here as a family, plane airfare, house, fully stocked food in house and cash for eating out. What a great place to be pampered.

What a joke!! Horrible parking. these jerks have the nerve to charge a minimum of $25 (it's for 2 hours only!!) No option for 1 or 3. If, after 2 hours, you want to extend?..well that's another $25. But, wait, there's more! You could just pay $40 and park for 8 hours. LOL!!..which is cheaper than 50. đŸ€”đŸ€”đŸ™„đŸ™„đŸ™„đŸ™„ ridiculous. $40 to park for 3 hours. Jerks.

I parked in, what I was told 5 seconds later, was a non-parking spot. I didn't know. Never got out of the car!!!! Parking girl told me I would have to move. OK. No problem. I immediately moved. Again, we never even got out of the car. It was literally 5 seconds or less. She called the Sheriff and gave my license plate #. He immediately came over to ticket me (but by then I was back in line waiting for a regular parking spot to open up. wow!!! what a jerk she was. She cost us 40 minutes of waiting in line... and also trying to get us ticketed! wow.

She said "if you park for just 3 seconds, that's considered "parking". ridiculous AND corrupt. Sheriff was corrupt too because he was going to issue the ticket.. until she changed her mind. Why the heck is he taking directions from a private business and employee??? He does NOT understand his own job. HE should be deciding who gets tickets.. not her!! What a chump he was.

And, it's not like we can just go to another parking lot or a different beach. Next closest is 1.5 hours away ..and it took us 2 hours to get there!!

ohhh!...and 2 hours later, they weren't even changing for parking!,! wow. way to mess over the paying customers ! Just a joke of a city/town/county and thr beach itself...

We drove to Captiva Beach and found a place to park. Saw the sigh on how to pay and with our phones did so. Went to enter the beach and was asked if we had paid. Of course we said yes and showed the guy our phone. Started across the beach and this guy stated yelling at us, ordered us off the beach and said we hadn't paid and called us liars when we said we had. Showed him our phone and he said we HAD NOT paid very nastily. Never offered to help us with the payment process and proceeded to embarrass us with the crowd that had gathered. We are seniors and not use to dealing with this type of payment process. With another person's help were finally able to complete the payment and went back to the beach. We have never been treated with such undeserving disrespect and will not be...

This is the most disappointed I have ever been in a beach. Definitely the most overhyped on social media. First off, the parking was $40. Not even in Miami is the beach parking $40. Additionally, the beach is a mess because of the hurricane almost 3 years back. After 3 years, $40 of parking, and THOUSANDS if not millions of dollars in taxes, the beach ( the MAIN attraction of Captiva Island) should definitely be cleaned up by now. Also, there is no where to clean off with water and there are no bathrooms. The sand is full of shells so its painful to walk without shoes. The only good thing is that the water was calm and flat, but that is typical of ANY beach on the gulf coast. We went to Sanibel the day before, you’re better off saving the miles and...
