Captiva is not to be confused with north Captiva also called upper Captiva island . Captiva is accessible through a bridge has cars and is connected in the same vicinity as Sanibel. During season is it quite packed with many tourists and there is a traffic jam of 4 hours to get to the Sanibel Captiva causeway the bridge. Bumper to bumper traffic no guest can avoid. Upper Captiva is different . It is a bridgeless island with all the right amount of modern amenities inclusive of 2 private clubs with resort style amenities and 4 waterfront restaurants 2 gift shops 1 small convenience store for the occasional oops forgotten items. An atm machine 2 private marina with tons of slips for rent and 2 bars. The beaches always seem like you have them all to yourself and 2/3 of the entire island is a nature sanctuary home to over 150 aviary species and the endangered gopher tortoise . We have electric golf carts are the form of transportation on island . No cars. We always intend to preserve our island paradise . The people are terrific friendly and helpful. Is a totally different vacationing experience . The little Oasis beach cottage is in upper Captiva Florida and sleeps 6 adults in beds. It is a fabulous 2 bedroom 2 bath pool home with a huge screened in porch with a hot tub steps from your front door with a rooftop deck to stargaze all 300 steps to your beach access. Rental comes with a free new golf cart. We do have a slip for rent to arrive by private boat. It sits 1 minute from resort amenities on the most prestigious cul de sac coral circle . I definitely recommend taking the 20 minute ferry ride which is the best part and visiting north Captiva island as it will be a vacation of...

First off, no WiFi and off-grid utilities. If you’re looking for a luxury resort with all the services, this place is not for you.

If you’re looking to get away from all the Southwest Florida tourist traps and you don’t have a huge boat to stay on, then this is the perfect place for you. This is a place I could spend some significant time to write a book.

Lars is the man! He gives you all the attention you want. If you want to be left alone, he‘ll do that as well.

If you’re bringing small kids, bring some extra toys to play with in case it rains. Otherwise, you and your kids can spend hours looking for shells and local wildlife. Great place to call home base for fishing trips. Jets skis and paddle boards would be very useful for this location

I’d like to come back with the...

Captiva is captivating! It's beautiful with lots of public beach that is not overcrowded like another review indicated. Walking the main areas is cool and there are plenty of restaurants and live music. There are also a couple of small grocery stores one of which is way more expensive than the other one. There are a few places to buy gifts or souvenirs. The Mucky Duck is a must! Doc Ford's is excellent as well. I didn't eat at The Bubble Room, however, I heard the food is just okay but their dessert is amazing. You can rent water equipment and there are cruises. There is a wildlife refuge and a wildlife hospital. I had a rental car and used it a couple of times but mostly I walked. I loved every minute of...

I was first at Captiva Island and a couple of years ago prior to Hurricane Ian. It was by far one of the most magical beaches I had ever seen. I love the locals, shops and atmosphere. We returned about three weeks ago. Although it looks nothing like it used to after 2 devastating storms, it is still magical and beautiful. It's a recommended place to go if you've never been. Make sure to support the businesses. The good people in this area deserve it.

This place is a little piece of old Florida paradise! The north end is accessible by boat only and has a nice little tiki bar with cold drinks, food, a great staff, and a swimming pool. The island is still in the recovery process from the last big hurricane and has a lot of clean up and repairs in progress. It's definitely worth the boat trip for the day from some relaxation, and fishing is amazing!!!
