Matlacha Menagerie — Attraction in Cape Coral

Horrible experience. Stopped by based on the good reviews and cute storefront. My 3 year old son was looking at a cooler, the owner stepped out and asked us to ask "our daughter" not to play with it. So I asked my SON to take a step back because it wasn't a kid friendly place. Something that any parent will tell their child in shops with delicate or fragile items. The Owner came storming out screaming at us that we can't degrade them like that, he was just telling us to move our daughter away that it had sharp edges, that we were so rude for even suggesting they weren't kid friendly. I agreed and said we asked our son to move so he wouldn't get hurt. However I chose to phrase "step back" to my child is my choice. Clearly this gentleman did not see it this way. He continued yelling at us, riling up my husband, calling our son a girl to annoy us, making rude comments about my husbands appearance as we walked away.

I understand people have bad days, but we meant no offense by saying it wasn't kid friendly. He seemed to take extreme offense to this statement though it was directed as a way to move our son away, nothing to him or his shop. I'm extremely sad and disappointed at this man's actions. Very rude, tried to ask where to park, the girl totally ignored us, finally got her attention and couldn't understand what she said, tried two more times and she ignored us both times, we parked around back and I went in and the girl said I told you not to park out back, I said I tried to ask you several times where we were supposed to park and she said she couldn't hear because of the traffic noise, but she never gave the least bit of effort to help. So many wonderful things to choose from; honestly, if you're searching for a gift or souvenir, this is the shop!! There were so many wonderful little treasures, many from local artists/artisans and all seemed to be priced very reasonably (a rarity, but a true gem)! The shopkeeper was kind and patient as I marveled at some of the artwork, even graciously passing some of his knowledge on how the items/art were made and a bit about the artists who made them.
