My husband and I were finally able to take a weekend trip away alone after many years. Matlacha was one our favorite places to visit, and we hadn’t been here since before Hurricane Ian. So needless to say, we were excited about coming. This was our first stay at Sugar Sands. Upon arrival, there was no one here. This is an in attended camp facility. There was a tent in a spot up close to the water on the left side, which I thought was odd. We backed our 5th wheel into a spot on the right side so we would have a water view, and our door opening would be toward the water. While doing this, a motor home drove straight into the spot where the tent is. A car pulled up behind it, lady gets out and takes the tent down and shoves it in the back of her car. After talking with them, we found out that they live close by and like to come here every now and then. What’s wrong is they stop by and throw a tent out early to “save” the site. That’s not right. Once we got our camper straightened and plugged in, we found the electric was not working on that site, or any of the sites on the right. I attempted many phone calls and texts, but no one answered, returned my calls, or even texted back. Now we’re pissed. My husband pulls the camper out, and has to park it sideways on the other side so we’re not sticking out in the middle of the parking lot. The sites on the left are smaller. Now our door it’s facing a fence and some condos. We got settled and I attempted another call to speak with someone about this. Owner finally answered. They were at a graduation. That’s great and congratulations, but perhaps arrange for someone to take calls for situations knowing you have people arriving. No remorse. Thanks for everything. We will...
Read moreI stayed there from June 18th 2024 till June 21st 2024 with my 74 years old aunt, my husband and my senior dog. The place is really small without a beach, but really nice and private. We were planning on going back because it suited us. However, come this morning, I received a text from them (idk if it was the owner or the girlfriend) saying to “return what we took”! I was dumbfounded and angry! So I texted them back to explain what was it that we supposedly took and I never got a response, I called like 10 times and left a few messages and I’m still waiting for them to call me back and explain what on Gods green earth are they saying!! I know they are mistaken us for someone else but is the fact they texted me accusing us of a criminal act without explanation is totally wrong. Stay away from this place!!
UPDATE: I finally was able to reach the owner and I was told he lost a “decorative piece” from an outside table and he’s blaming my husband 🙄 I was mad at the beginning but it’s kind of joke at this point because who would stay there for his bday on an expensive RV and truck for four days and “take” a piece of wood from the outside table?!?! 😂 I still tried to be civil about it and asked for a video and of course I wasn’t provided one! It is a shame because he seemed nice when I met him (saw him once) I still have a good memory from my stay, we met two really nice couples who we stay in touch. But, it is scary to be accused of stealing junk 🤯. If they take this baseless accusation to the authorities it will be defamation of character! The law...
Read moreThis location is in no way an “RV Resort" as the title implies. Fanciful marketing. I drove thru it before my reservation date to make sure I knew how to find it. It is a 10 space plot of gravel parking lot that is improved with full RV hook-ups. The park is located on a waterfront parcel, although only two of the sites actually have a view of the water. The road "Porpoise Point" isn't marked and I never found a sign for the park. The RV spaces are small and tight with very limited maneuvering room. I knew this wasn’t our kind of camping and called 4 weeks before our reserved date to cancel the reservation. I was informed they do not refund deposit ($150), you can only have a credit for a future stay. I have never had a campground keep my deposit. There won’t be a...
