I want to send a shout out to Kampus Kuts Barbershop and Salon in Carbondale, IL, particularly Barber Ryan. I recently started having some health issues that caused my beautiful long hair to start breaking off and falling out. As a Dramatic Diva, this caused me to take drastic measures and cut out my 21â SisterLocksâ˘ď¸ myself. HUGE MISTAKE! Enter Ryan, my Super Hero Barber. I called Kampus Kuts after finding them on Yelp. Once he heard of my need, Ryan was willing to take me on short notice for an early morning appointment the next day. Yâall, let me tell you that this young man is more than a barber! He is exceptionally good at his job as a barber, as you will see from the pictures, but his personality and spirit is also exceptional. It was awesome learning about his family and education (heâs working on his PhD), and how he is an integral part of his community. I enjoy finding businesses who are really integrated into their communities. Actually, as I sat in his chair, a young woman stopped by the barbershop to thank him for his support through a conversation they had the day before. In his capacity as a psychologist, Ryan often is in a position to help others right from the barbershop.
Inside Kampus Kuts itself, you will find a unique and eclectic collection of vintage barber furniture, a pool table, and various seating arrangements. There are hand painted windows and murals inside and outside of the building. It is clean, accessible, and open to all. This small, minority-owned business is definitely a staple in the community, and I am so glad to have stumbled across it. If you are looking for a great haircut and/or style while you shoot the breeze with enlightened individuals, I highly recommend Kampus Kuts. When you stop by, tell them Kindra...
Read moreI brought my two boys for a cut, I called 2 hours prior the man told me come at 2 so we did 10 mins before. A man came out from the back after a couple minutes and was extremely nice and friendly said he would call a barber for us, said 5 mins they would be up there. My boys really wanted to go to a black barber being mixed and after the first man was so polite and customer friendly I thought everything would go smoothly but I was very wrong . Once the barber showed up I felt like we was bothering him, my boys are a little shy but there kids and this man never even spoke to them, didnât ask a name nothing. The cuts werenât nothing to brag about at all, I couldnât believe I paid 55 dollars for 2 cuts none of us even felt comfortable enough to let him (I think his name was Mack) know it wasnât even and we werenât happy. I thought maybe it was just me but even my 15yr old got in the car and said he was so rough he just wanted it over. I can only assume these guys have all the customers they need to be successful because that customer service was awful for new business. #realdisappointed I thought when I drove 45 mins there that my boys would enjoy and feel confident about the cut that we would make regular trips to keep up this tight lined up hair cut they been talking about but never again, idk if theyâll want to even go back to a black barber again at least other barber shops we go to are friendly even if they canât line it up right Iâd take friendly first...
Read moreI have gone to this shop several times over the years and it's a good place to get a haircut. I've had four different barbers cut my hair and I could could tell each one was skilled. The knock on this shop is the customer service. Movies blaring and barbers not paying much attention to customers, but this is pretty standard for most barbershops I've been to so I don't mind it too much. If the customer service was better this would easily be a five star review. The prices are okay, I paid $35 for a even haircut which is becoming the new norm for haircuts. My haircut only took 10-15 minutes...
