Hosp Grove West is wonderful little trail that I still hike every month or so. I used to take my boys here when they were little 20 years ago and we used to call it the Davy Crockett Trail - we watched a lot of old Westerns, with our favorite being The Alamo. The loop trail, which starts and ends in the parking lot, is exactly 1 mile. About halfway up the hill is a side trail that goes up to Crest Drive, so if take that up the hill and back you can add another half mile to your hike. Sadly, this trail is where a 68-year-old grandmother, Lisa Thorborg, was murdered shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday, November 23. Always makes me a little sad when I go on the trail now. Children in Nature, such a beautiful setting. Hosp Park is a gorgeous place to take your children, furry babies, and friends for a gentle hike in the hills. This time of year the hills are brightly colored in a verdant shade of green. You can hear the sounds of nature all around you as the variety of avian species benefits from the protected Carlsbad lagoon located adjacent to the park.
The El Camino Carlsbad Mall is also located a stone’s throw away so if a member of your party tires of the raw rustic beauty of nature, a local Cinnabon isn’t far. LOL! But that review is for another day. ;-)
There are picnic tables, hiking trails, swings, spring rocking horse ride ons and a play structure that is fit for ages 3+ with adult supervision. The wooden bridges and natural surroundings is enough to enthrall all children from 0-100+.
I highly recommend people stop by and see and experience this little quaint spot of forgotten...
