Nice Ramen place with rice bowls.
Located outside the mall, theater side... dining el fresco available... maybe a bit windy and loud with passing cars
Service staff is very friendly. THANK YOU ALYZZA!!
We were in search of a mall that was dog friendly and had decent food choices (non food court). We discovered The Shoppes at Carlsbad.
Here is what we ordered, but I will only review the food that I actually tasted.
Chicken Ramen (white meat) $13.95 Curry & Ramen Lunch Special $15.95
Nagoya Karaage Rice Bowl $13.95; you get a couple of good bite size portions of chicken thighs that have been battered and deep fried. A sweet karaage sauce is drizzled on top. The chicken is tender and juicy. The sauce goes well with the rice.
Charsu Pork Rice Bowl $13.95; this is not the charsu that comes with your ramen. This is actually chopped pork belly that has been glazed and browned on the flat iron. Its crispy, juicy and over yummy. The sweet sauce is caramelized on the pork so there is some smoky notes. Who does not love pork belly!!
Beef Rib Ramen $21.95; you get a beef rib over ramen. There is plenty of fried garlic chips and fresh asparagus. The ramen is in a garlicy broth, but that could have been caused by the garlic chips. The beef rib had plenty of meat on it for those that love to gnaw. My suggestion is to dip the rib into the ramen broth and let it sit for a few minutes. The rib by itself was a bit on the dry side and the garlic chips really overpowered the broth... but if you love garlic this is the dish for you. *NOTE Quantity for this...
Read moreOne of my favorite spots! I’ve been here 4 times so far and it’s usually always great. They have vegan options which is nice since my partner is vegetarian. The space is small, so when it’s busy there is a long wait time, but I have yet to experience it. The brussel sprouts are one of my favorites, the first time we came I ordered two. The salmon skin roll was okay, Teri cafe has a better one though. The ramen is so yummy! I’ve had the vegan tan tan, the regular tan tan, and the black ramen. I prefer the vegan and regular tan tan cause I like spicy. The black ramen was yummy, but needed heat. Which was an easy fix, they have a ‘spice rack’ which has like chili oil and stuff so you can add as much heat as you like. We try a new sake every time we come, which is obviously hit or miss depending on what you like. The cocktails are yummy, but no actual alcohol. I’ve only had poor service here once. I brought my brother and his fiancé when they visited and we almost walked out. We were sat down quickly, but a server didn’t come to us until 20-30 minutes after. And it was pretty much like we didn’t exist the entire time we ate. We were seated outside and there two other tables, both occupied, and they were checking on them regularly. We had to stop one of the servers to ask for limes, she never brought them, but continued to wait on the other tables. It was very weird, but the food was still good. And I still recommend the place since every time I’ve been back that...
Read moreThe food here is pretty decent but the service is quite unorganized. Sat down for dinner and put in our order of 3 appetizers to start @6pm. 6:10 our first app comes out. Takoyaki was 5/5. Excellent. 20 minute passes by, waiter comes back and says did you guys want to order anymore food? We said no cause we hadn’t gotten all of our apps yet. 10 more minutes passed, a diff waiter brings us our bill. I told him we haven’t gotten the rest of our food yet. He said he would go check on it. Waited for him to come back with an update but he did not so we had to ask a waitress for and update on our food. She tells they’re making it now. Our waiter eventually comes by to tell us the kitchen was backed up. I find this untrue as we observed everyone who came after us getting their food in a timely manner. I suspect that they forgot about us and brought us the check cause they thought we were done. The apps finally came which was about an hour into dinner now.
We ended up ordering the beef rib ramen because the 3 apps weren’t enough. The bone needed to be cooked a little longer cause it was chewy. The torching of the meat made no sense and took away from the beefy goodness of the beef bone. The broth was just overly salty which made it hard to enjoy the entire dish. Really like the amount of garlic they...
