Carmel Christkindlmarkt — Attraction in Carmel

We had a great time at the Carmel Christkindlmarkt when we visited! The only downside was some of the lines that we had to wait in were pretty long, the longest being 35 minutes for the Raclette. We came to the market about 15 minutes after it opened the Friday before Christmas so I imagine that was a factor on why it was so busy. The raclette is a pretty cool experience so while it does have a wait, it's worth experiencing at least once. We did have a good time, got some good food, and were able to have some unique experiences. The market had a large selection of things to choose from with vendors selling several items such as cuckoo clocks, ornaments, and other wares that were fun to check out. The food was good and there was a large selection including a waffle that had Biscoff topping (if you're familiar with my reviews that's always a favorite flavor)! We tried the mulled wine offered in the pink boot which I will turn into an ornament so that part of the experience was cool. The mulled wine itself though I hope they change up in the future as it was more like warm Cabernet Sauvignon sans anything else than mulled wine I have had in Europe which is awesome and full of wine & other spices/flavors. The parking can be pretty daunting as well but you can't complain about free parking so kudos to them for making it free instead of charging for it! I recently visited the Carmel Christkindl Market, and it was an absolute delight!

The Good

Authentic German Atmosphere: The market transported me to a quaint German village, complete with traditional architecture, decorations, and music. Unique Shopping: The vendors offered a wide range of handmade, unique gifts, decorations, and treats that made for perfect holiday shopping. Delicious Food and Drink: The traditional German fare, such as glühwein and bratwurst, was delicious and added to the festive atmosphere. Family-Friendly: The market offered plenty of activities for kids, including face painting, crafts, and visits with Santa.

The Not-So-Good

Sticky Cheese: Be prepared for a sticky situation if you try the cheese fondue – it's delicious but messy!

Tips for Visiting Arrive Early: Get there before the crowds to make the most of your visit. Dress Warmly: It's an outdoor market, so bundle up to stay cozy. Bring Cash: Some vendors might not accept credit/debit cards. Be Prepared for Sticky Cheese: If you try the fondue, have some napkins handy! Check the Schedule: Plan your visit around the live music, entertainment, and Santa's hours.

Because I was born and raised in Germany as a German-American🇩🇪🇺🇲 and then followed my husband to the US (10+ years ago ) we decided to give this Christmas market a try.🎄

Probably the closest to "home" of a real Christkindle Markt I have ever experienced in America! And we have traveled quite a bit for german "authentic" foods, markets etc.. as they were always advertised as such but always have been very disappointing 😔. Try it all! The Bratwurst took me back ..as a child, teenager... eating a Bratwurst on a cold day at the market..it was wonderful 😊brought back great memories. Though we didn't serve Bratwurst with sauerkraut at least not in Würzburg, it was mustard - that was standard.😁 Prices are high, which is somewhat to be expected as most items are imported from Germany, so I get that 😒 don't mean I have to like it lol. Lines are long but move fairly quickly, people are kind and if they can will talk to you - just not in German😔. Glühwein, Glühbier, hot chocolate, apple cider, Flammkuchen, fries with ketchup and mayo, toys, jewelry, decorations, crepe, Hefeweizen, raclette, fresh baked pretzels. Just enjoy it all!! 🎄🇩🇪🇺🇲 There is a ice skating rink but you need to sign up online to ensure you will have a slot to rent ice skates and a designated time.
