Cute clean park. Not much for the under 5 year olds to play on. One side of play structure is just decoration. Long walk back to car with kids having melt down because they don’t want to go home. Only two benches for about 35 parents to sit on and watch kids. I am disabled and am working on strengthening but standing on a bad leg for an hour or more is way too much. I saw other disabled people standing at the top of small hill looking at play area and kids crying because it was too far and no place for disabled kids or adults. People were siting on wood chips on the ground. Picnic area too far for adults to gather and still see kids playing. Child wet pants before get to bathroom as it is too far from play area. May look cool and trendy but not for elderly grandparents, kids under 5 or the disabled. Best park for variety of ages and abilities is...
Read moreNice to have another park in New Hanover County. Wide trails, smooth transitions from trail to decked walkways. Pet friendly. Enormous dog parks (1 big/1 small), granted there's a brief walk to get to the dog areas. Nice playground area for kids. Apparently restrooms aren't open yet, but I'm guessing they will be soon. Would be nice to have other picnic tables scattered throughout the park. There are a few tables in the dog park areas and several at the entrance near the bathrooms. A few tucked away would be nice. Update: the fence between the 2 dog parks has large gaps underneath. Our dog (about 12" to shoulders) fit easily under the fence. We lost her for a while and someone on the large dog size told us she...
Read moreHanover Pines is a great new addition to the area. The playground is very large and has multiple different climbing elements. There are no swings. There are only 3 benches at the playground and no shade. There is a pavilion/picnic area near the parking lot but it is not near the playground itself. The park benches were very hot in the summer sun. This playground best fits older children, some of the equipment would not be safe for kids 4 and younger. There are restrooms at the parking lot. Signs mention a dog park on site but we did not see it. Signs also indicate pets are not allowed within 50 ft of the playground. There is a paved trail that connects with the parking...
