Beautiful beach with a private feel while remaining both public and free The beach is nearly trash free, no doubt due to the type of people the beach attracts. When the water is high, there isnt much of a shoreline and it is important to be mindful of how much you are spreading out.
The walk down is a little rough. If you can park on the mountain near the bathrooms you will shorten your walk but increase the incline significantly. Otherwise you can park where chimney beach is marked and follow the wide private car path to the bathrooms. Those bathrooms at the top of the hill are THE bathrooms, and that's also the only trash cans. Dont forget to take your trash with you when you leave From there it is a very steep hike down. Bad knees and hips will need to take this very easy. Wear comfortable shoes and pack as absolutely light as possible. A couple extra waters adds up when you have to carry them. No glassware. You can have umbrellas but youll find they dont stick well in the sand
THIS BEACH IS DOG AND CHILD FRIENDLY. Ive never been without someone having either a dog or kid with them. This means a few things. No public shagging, it is not that kind of beach. The environment is almost like a Disney glitch where clothing was forgotten on some characters and yet no one noticed. You can bring your dogs or kids but i do emphasize-- other people will bring dogs and kids. If your dog isnt good with people or kids or other dogs-- leave them at home! If you are uncomfortable with an open age range swimming naked together or dogs being near your naked body, pick a less clothing optional or public friendly beach.
Photos-- Such a fun topic at the nude beach. It seems the general rule- if you have a pic of other people that is clearly recognizable of them, you should delete it. You should never ever point a camera at strangers on any beach, swimming in swimsuits and naked alike can be uncomfortable for people and its best to respect this. But if you and your friends want photos of yourself or the actual scenery, you should be okay to politely take those. However, remember that although you are trying to get the perfect sunset beach nudey, the rest of us are also there. Please be mindful of how much beach you are holding hostage with your camera lense I have seen straight couples, gay couples, obvious three people relationships with kids, trans people, obvious liberals, obvious conservatives, people dressed literally head to toe, beautiful young people, people you would never see on tv...the only thing we all have in common is that we arent there to judge anyone else and we all have a great time Most days its about 50/50 on clothed vs naked though im always surprised as its a really rough walk just to swim like any other beach.
Overall- whether you want to avoid tanlines, complete a bucket list, just check it out, keep your clothes dry while swimming, or whatever your reason is, if you can do intermediate to moderate hiking, dont mind the freezing waters of tahoe, and are responsible enough to be a respectful guest while you visit-- this os the place
Secret Cove is by far one of the most magical places on earth. Its where mother nature meets human nature.Take your time warming up to it and dont feel guilty for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeautiful place to visit. The nearby beaches are also very beautiful with tropical looking water and lots of areas to sunbathe or hang out. We parked on the road and got lucky enough to get a spot. We hiked to Secret Harbor Beach and paddled to Secret Cove from there.
If you are looking for a full nude beach, however, this is not the place to go. We went here to try it and get out of our comfort zone and we did for a time, but the majority of people were clothed, or taking photos with their phones even though it says "no photos." That being said if you wanted to get naked, you totally had the option. Overall I'd say at any given time there were less than 5-10 people nude or partially nude. If you want privacy go to the surrounding rocks where it's less crowded. I think we would've felt more comfortable if more people had been joining and not so many people there gawking or taking photos.
I would definitely go back, as objectively as a beach it is magnificent.
And yes, as other reviews mention, people keep bringing their kids here, so if you are reading this, please take them elsewhere to a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo our family of 3 (husband, wife, kiddo) didnāt realize this was a nude beach, and after a CRAZY hike down⦠moments before we entered the cove we see a āclothing optionalā sign. Weāre like āwell⦠letās see what itās all about!ā. After making sure our 14 year old son was ok with it, we actually stayed the whole afternoon. But beware, there can be MANY nude people. But itās not creepy, itās actually very cool to see young & old, men & women, all different body shapes⦠just hanging out with what they were born in not thinking twice about what anyone else was doing. Itās probably the coolest vibe Iāve ever had at a beach, not to mention Caribbean clear & warm water. We loved that one afternoon in 2023 SOOOO much, weāre coming all the way back for an entire week this year with friends & family. If you have a laidback attitude, where people just want to have a good time and chill in the beautiful nature, this...
